    Balls

I've been meaning to post on this subject for a while, but I've been busy. When tournaments come around we always get commentators and summarisers passing comment on how the match balls are getting lighter and that they cause problems for goalkeepers. This, to me, doesn't compute. I have...

Another question this time re kits.

Oh no, it's me again...lol! When it comes to tournament play (ie World Cup, Confederations Cup, etc), who decides what colours the teams wear? The reason why I asked was that there have ( to my eyes at least) been a couple of strange colour combinations worn in the Confed Cup. While I haven't...

    A couple of hypothetical questions...

Hello chaps. As I have an enquring mind and reading up on the Laws I came up with a couple of questions to put forward to you all. One deals with impeding and the other dangerous play. First, a player is chasing a ball played over the top with an opponent running close behind. Realising he...

    Injuries

We all know the scenario, a player gets injured and the ref stops play for the physio to come on. The 'magic sponge' does its trick and the player is OK to continue. Now the player has to go off the FOP to then come back on again with the referee's permission, which always irritates the hell out...

    Half way line flags

Does anyone know why, unlike corner flags, half way line flags are optional? Just curious...

I thought the 'snood' was banned.

There's me thinking that was the case then I saw these pics from Germany... http://groundhopper2000.blogspot.co.uk/ Maybe it's just in the men's game...

Players getting booked for celebrating goals

I saw in the Brighton - Arsenal cup tie one of the Arsenal players being booked for celebrating his goal. I know he ran over to the Gunners fans and he was right at the front of the stand whilst celebrating a goal. This is what gets me about some edicts handed down to officials. This guy has...

    LotG app for iPod/Phone

I have downloaded the official IRB laws of rugby union on my iPod and was wondering if there is a FIFA equivalent, ie the LotG, to download. I've searched the net and app store and could only find an American app which has it, but as an add on to it's US Soccer rules and it's not right good! I...

Jostling, shirt pulling etc at Corners & FKs

Is there a reason why we see referees only having words with players in the box when they're shirt pulling, grabbing and pretty much wrestling with each other. Surely a yellow card and changing a FK or corner into a penalty if it's the defending team transgressing would sort it out?

Penalised for jumping to head the ball

Just a general match incident question here. I've seen this in various games, when two players jump together to head the ball we sometimes see one getting penalised for 'elbows', that is making contact with the opponent. As I see it when you jump in the air you usually use your arms in a...

Are you reading a football related book at the moment?

If so what is it, and is it any good? I'm currently re-reading 'Inverting the pyramid, the history of football tactics' by Jonathan Wilson. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone with an interest in football.

    Eh Up!

Although I have already posted on this here forum I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a Yorkshireman by birth but raised in a midlands family and moved all over the place as my dad was in the Armed Forces, so I've seen most of the UK and Europe. After I left the RAF myself I settled down with...
