Fitness test

Work on your technique, that’s the key. It may take some time but It will improve your speed. Good luck on your next test.
This is good advice.
Not much you can do about your top speed, but most people have significant gains they can make by tidying up technique at the start and in the early acceleration phase.
The 40 yard sprint is a standard NFL test, so there are loads of videos online with useful tips for this kind of distance.

There's not much that can be done for short term, but longer term strength training, plyometrics, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning will all contribute to faster speed.
Weight loss and/or muscle gain should see improvements in ability to reach and sustain a higher top speed as well as less power output is required.

Thanks, have now found some videos based on that

Hi all, fitness test coming in June. I have some time to prepare and train for the test. I understand the new format, my overall fitness in a game is good, on average I would cover over 10-12kms per game, with every other weekend completing back to back games

What do you guys recommend do? I can obviously recreate the test, which i will do 4-6 weeks before the test, but what would you recommend to start with. I currently do 2-3 peloton rides per week, which would be my exercise, than a couple of games on the weekend. I do struggle to just go for a run. 🙈

Any help would be great. What about diet, and what food would you recommend before the test.

Thanks
Good morning all
I have fitness test this week
What's happens if i fail can I give it again if i find a date ?and this fitness test is it only once a year or they have and winter ?

Apologies for dragging up a dead thread, but we're about to commence our fitness tests on the Channel Islands but I'm hearing that it's now timed gates (which isnt a surprise) and that we need to have a qualified medical person there? That's never been the case before. Has that been other people's experience? I assume it will just be a first aider?

Every official FA fitness test I've ever done has had an ambulance there. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Yes, St Johns attend all FA fitness tests. Have had them cancelled when St Johns haven't turned up.

The gates are the best bit!

And me, had one cancelled and one delayed by over an hour when the ambulance hadn't turned up.

That may pose some funding issues in the CI's, particularly as there will be very few participants & hiring in medical services is expensive (no NHS here & St John's are expensive) but that's something that needs to be overcome.

Maybe, but if being run by the FA they won't do it without a qualified medical practitioner there. It stems back back to 15-20 years ago when a referee died on a fitness test, there's no way they would allow it without.
