Can you send the guidance? I’m intrigued as to what it says
2 links attached.
Serious Foul Play - https://www.premierleague.com/news/4079964

High Foot challenges - https://www.premierleague.com/news/4079982

The SFP link mentions the whole on or above the ankle bit. The links don't explicitly mention the Achilles but I remember Howard Webb using that as a reference during one of the Mic'd Up episodes. However, the second link does mention a high degree of danger, which contact on the Achilles normal has!

I’ll take the 2nd link with a heavy pinch of salt considering the image they’ve used 🫣

So MO thought he had hit his Achilles and hence sent him off!

I agree with the conclusion. It’s not the worst decision, but it’s the wrong decision.
Refwatch was interesting.

I would love to know where this nonsense VAR are frightened to overturn decisions made by Michael Oliver, what proof have people got?

Oliver has been called to the screen several times before, a VAR called him over on a penalty he gave in a Ipswich game. It just feels an easy accusation to make but no real proof it happens.

Only time maybe is when David Coote have that penalty to West Ham against Man United where Oliver was on VAR. He was not convinced it would seem by the audio but went along with it but I like to think that is an exception and that refs treat Michael Oliver the same as other refs.

I hope we get the audio for this and I hope aswell both the referee and VAR sake that the referee has described what he saw(it is noticeable not all refs do this) whilst giving the red card out and it might give some clarity why he went red card and why VAR did not intervene. Sick of hearing pundits saying, go to the monitor for a second look, that is not what it's there for!

The audio will be interesting…..I have a feeling they won’t release it……which will drive everyone nuts.
If they do release it and he says Achilles red card as instructed by PGMOL then it’s bad again. Lose lose.

Jamie Redknap on Sky great clip going around. Basically says the abuse of MO is out of order, the castigation/polarization has to stop, if he had a match tomorrow he’d want MO on the whistle. Hats off Jamie!
The abuse is unacceptable. We all agree on that!
Regardless of any errors.

I think they’ll show this on Mic’d Up. There would be an even worse backlash if they didn’t. It’s had too much publicity

What I do think is that the senior authorities involved with refereeing (PGMOL, UEFA Referees Committee etc) clearly don't think the decision was as bad as some are making it out to be. He's just been given a huge game in the UCL this week, and I don't think UEFA would have put him on that game if they think he got a KMD that badly wrong days earlier! Clearly they think he got it right.

Can’t get much bigger than Barcelona. It could be that it is just a case that he is more appreciated/accepted in other European countries more than his own.

Those appointments are done in advance. So this won’t have been taken into consideration.

Nothing stopping them changing them. They've done that before iirc and there is presumably a reason why they don't release them until a couple of days beforehand (in this case after this decision happened).

Not how it works. UEFA are unlikely to change an appointment this close to time based on a league weekend accident.

Exactly this, it is just conspiracy theories from supporters. Oliver and Taylor have had VAR recommend reviews before and have changed their decisions. There's possibly an argument to say that they get less recommended reviews as they are the better referees and therefore get less key decisions wrong.

The Joao Pedro incident in the Brighton v Brentford game received a lot of press but didn't feature....

That's because it did'nt involve a big 6 club. There's a handball incident in the Spurs v Newcastle game which was shown but if that incident happened in Brighton v Brentford, I doubt it would of got featured because let's face it, it wasn't that controversial. Likewise if Joao Pedro played for Spurs and he did that, I be shocked if it didn't get shown on Mic'd up.

Of course this will get mentioned, I know it depends on how much controversy there is between now and then but it would shocked me if Rob Jones rejecting a red card review does not get mentioned either because again it involved a big 6 side and to be fair it does involve an unique incident of a referee kind of disagreeing with the VAR at the monitor.
