Too much Talksh**e I think.Personally I don't see a problem with the language as players use it frequently throughout matches and rarely get carded for it. I appreciate there needs to be better ways of dealing with the decisions that went against Slot's team at the point of the match ending and perhaps managers need to told to be kept away from them going forwards. I think allowing managers to go up and shake their hands is creating a potential issue when tempers can be frayed?
MO has had a poor run of form though and perhaps needs a break from the game?
I don't think we need to stop a tradition of sportsmanship that sets a good example of thanking the referee for the game just because some can't keep their mouths shut. If Arne Slot didn't want to be civil to MO, then he had the option to not go over to him at all, as all managers do.I think allowing managers to go up and shake their hands is creating a potential issue when tempers can be frayed?
Yes that is fair. I watched a few games this weekend and it seems that referee's are just letting tackles go and hoping VAR come in and help them out. I was surprised that MO missed that goal keepers tackle on the weekend but he has shown difficulty in assessing situations when he is behind the players involved. I wonder if sometimes and I think this occurs with me, that sometimes you see something that you can't believe just happened and decide that it didn't?I don't think we need to stop a tradition of sportsmanship that sets a good example of thanking the referee for the game just because some can't keep their mouths shut. I know what you mean - the 'did I really just see what I think I saw'? but I think MO probably just badly misjudged this one.Yes that is fair. I just wonder why we don't get the audio of these discussions straight up - it's like the decisions in rugby where the referee talks through what they are deciding. Surely it can't be too hard for this to be setup - at least then it would show that they are being clear and transparent in their decision making.I know what you mean - the 'did I really just see what I think I saw'? but I think MO probably just badly misjudged this one.
It isn't allowed by IFAB, Howard Webb has repeatedly said he is trying to get this changed but I suspect that will be easier said than done.I just wonder why we don't get the audio of these discussions straight up - it's like the decisions in rugby where the referee talks through what they are deciding. Are the ref's audios recorded so could/would be presented as evidence to confirm what Slot actually said?It isn't allowed by IFAB, Howard Webb has repeatedly said he is trying to get this changed but I suspect that will be easier said than done.
The difference in terms of language is it is in a specific context. Remember that entering the pitch to confront the match officials at half time or full time is a red card offence as defined by law. He might have got away with mildly disagreeing with the decision, but chucking in the f word makes it all the more confrontational. It does sound he let him get away with a couple, but then it continued so out came the red card.
They must be otherwise the Mic'd Up show wouldn't exist. But I think those those professional quality mics won't pick up much of what someone without a mic says to them, they are targeted so as to cut out background noise. Happy to be corrected by those that have used them though. Are the ref's audios recorded so could/would be presented as evidence to confirm what Slot actually said?
Accept not to be released into the public domain.
They are definitely recorded. Think this came in a couple of years back. But they do cut out background noise, to a point. At least in my experience of using them and listening back to clips. They must be otherwise the Mic'd Up show wouldn't exist. It's not the language used. It is how it is used. The confrontation, the insult, the insinuation of bias, etc etc. I honestly believe (and have mentioned it a number of times) the culture of accepting this type of behaviour as part of football, even as a referee, is what's stopping us from cleaning up the game of referees being blamed for everything.Personally I don't see a problem with the language as players use it frequently throughout matches and rarely get carded for it
