Just going to point out that the AR does need to see the PK taker because they need to know when the kick is taken to make the judgement of the GKs position, not too dissimilar from an offside judgment.
And also from an earlier post, if the goalkeeper does move before the kick is taken and there is an impact (saves etc), it would not be expected for the AR to raise his flag (thereby drawing attention to himself), but to remain in his position and/or if buzzer flags are being used, to alert the Referee by this method (games involving VAR are excluded from this reply).

Not just go by the sound of the ball and then count 1 then monitor the GKs feet?

At the levels we are talking about you don't really hear the ball as you have Comms piece in your ears and crowd noise.

Coupled with having a hearing impairment I am heavily reliant on what I see, not what I can or sometimes can't hear.

Not sure what you mean and why count 1? If my guess is right then you may be off by a bit. Sound travels at about 340m per second. it takes 0.066 second (less than a tenth of a second) for the sound of the kick to travel to AR standing in correct place. Counting to 1 takes way longer than that (relatively).🤣

Either way, you'd be trying to count that 0.066 seconds from before you hear the noise to monitor the keeper, not after 😆
Disclaimer: unless I'm wrong and this is too complicated for my pea brain

How do I know when to start that count (before I hear it) unless I am looking at the kicker? And if I am looking at it then why count? Nothing a bit of peripheral vision can't help here.

Use the ball chip thing and GLT to create a system to electrocute the ‘keeper if they move off the line before the ball is kicked. Some copper wire under the goal line or whatever. I’ll have eleventy billion dollars please PGMOL/Elon.

If you see a ball being kicked then your brain will align that image with the sound.

Works up to about 30 yards iirc from one of very few outdoor science lessons.
