The one word I dislike is "cheat." Players may doubt my eyesight or my refereeing abilities. But I will never tolerate them doubting my neutrality.

I once refereed my sons team in a friendly. During the second half I awarded his team a penalty, and my son said, "Good decision Dad..." That went down well..!!!

Don't start me on personal hearings. I am not questioning the players right to one, just the way they are held. We send in our reports, and then have to justify them in front of a committee who tend to doubt the validity of our reports.

I would be inclined to contact your county assessor co-ordinator. And without being critical of the assessor, show the co-ordinator the assessment you received, and ask him to consider whether it was a reasonable assessment, particularly as there was only one positive comment.

I say this with the greatest of trepidation, but I fear that one day a referee will be killed following violence inflicted upon him/her by a player or club official. Action needs taking now, and not punitive action either. Our match officials need protecting from violence.

I am with Dan on this one. Get the wall back, and tell the keeper it is on the whistle. They should know if it is direct or indirect, but I generally tell them just in case they are unsure. An update Gents, after a month of rest, I did a game this morning. I must be honest and admit I did no sprinting, I just eased myself into it. I had a fifteen minute warm up and felt OK. Thankfully I had no reaction so maybe the injury has cleared up. Will I be OK to start sprinting again next...

The classic comment that I am sure we have all heard. "Is this your first game ref?"

Social media has got more than one referee in hot water. I use it for harmless banter, and not for serious issues regarding referees.

We are not there to have an easy game. We are there to enforce the laws of the game correctly. Hopefully we have games where things go well, but that does not mean they are easy. The harder you work the more rewards you will get from your games.
