What reaction was the "puller" hoping for here?
I this incident I genuinely don't think the puller was hoping for any reaction as I genuinely don't think it was intentional, just instinctive as I said.
Fully supportive of the red card as things stand, don't get me wrong. I just think I personally wouldn't mind the expectation changing.

The Ref Stop
As a former defender who knows all of the dark arts I can say with certainty that Keane knew exactly what he was doing there. He's hoping that the striker reacts and strikes out resulting in him getting sent off, although to do it with VAR in use shows a considerable lack of common sense. I saw it happen many times when playing, whether it was hair pulling, pinching their derriere, or the most common of deliberately standing on the back of the striker's foot when play is down the other end.

So Everton appealed, lost and David Moyes is still at a loss knowing those on the panel. I’m afraid I just can’t understand his attitude, as well as him trying to compare unrelated incidents & their outcomes to the hair pulling. Frustrated he may be, but he has had time to calm down & reflect.

I think Moyes is perhaps trying too see it as I do in that is a small tug like that really violent conduct and warrants a 3 match ban or is it just more unsportsmanlike?

Nevertheless the fact he says it's accidental and the VAR should be embarrassed for telling the ref to come to the screen is ridiculous though, definitely not accidental and the VAR in law was correct to intervene.

I mean the simple answer is don't pull anyone's hair and there would be no issues.

I tend to agree with him if he truly sees it that way, but he must have had his eyes close for the last 4/5 seasons if he doesn’t know that’s how the offence is dealt with. He & his club plus any other PL club etc can always lobby IFAB to try and get the Law downgraded etc, but it doesn’t appear anyone has done that - but then happy to moan.

I appreciate this is a screenshot from a social media post so I dont know the authenticity of the quote but if true, Tarky has a lot to learn still..

He mentions referees inexperience and not knowing the players.
Do I assume then that new, young players, should not be allowed to play with the big boys because they dont know the adult game?
He doesnt know Keano.. and what does that have to do with the decision? I actually think its great he doesnt know the players. Cant be influenced etc.
I remember reading Son being a really nice fella, when at Tottenham, and that leg breaking tackle he done. Should the ref that day only given a yellow because he is such a nice guy?

Come on Tarks. Be real.

Words fail me but I shouldn’t be surprised.

As James L has intimated, ever since the incident involving Mike Dean (who was the 4th official) who didn’t bring an unspotted hair pull to the attention of Anthony Taylor, it has been generally accepted across the football world in both men & women’s football that a hair pull is a sending off offence whatever degree of tug, similar to a player making contact with a deliberate act to touch, slap, punch, strike the head of an opponent.
I think it's only become a VC offence since the prominence of the women's game where most players have grabbable hair.

A yellow card for unsporting behaviour for me, violent contact? There does need to be more force. Albeit ‘don’t pull hair!’

I’m totally unconvinced by that theory. Decades ago I would have fully expected hair pulling to be a send off. We would very rarely have seen it in the men’s game because fewer men had hair long enough to effectively pull than do today.
