Not a clear and obvious error to award it for me. Both players elbows are up, and I know not handball but in a justifiable position for someone jumping for the ball.
Fine if you want to give a pen, but not one for VAR to get involved in.

I’m not sure VAR would get involved if there was no nose bleed.

Anywhere else on the pitch, it's a free kick all day long and no debate. Pundits don't help with comments about "intent" 🤬

PK is OK but VAR has no place re-refereeing that
Shame, VAR hasn't been spoiling things for the most part

Despite the amount of blood, there didn't seem to be a huge amount of force, which is what probably saved Lovren from a red. You can't allow players to jump like that and elbow an opponent in the face with no fear of it being called - player safety.

All players jump exactly the same. It's ridiculous to expect players to jump without using their arms for leverage. That said, I'm just about OK with a PK, as Loveren was more physical than the defender, but it was pure chance as to whose not got bumped

No, what Schick has done isn't a foul. Lovren has elbowed the opponent in the face. That is not the same thing.
I know what you're saying, but it's the sorta thing that only exists in Referee's minds. Any player/manager/pundit would disagree and I'd side with them

Sure, you can jump that way, but you have to take care of where your elbows when doing it. The failure to take care not to hit an opponent in the face made it (at least) careless--hence a careless striking foul. (And the caution tells us, ITOOTR, it went beyond careless to reckless.)

But why was the PK taker allowed to continue with blood still dripping down his face?

I thought the same though. Silly yellow card to pickup, when all goals are checked. Irrelevant to the fact of VAR he wasnt even close to offside either.

Yeah, I mean, putting aside VAR, has an AR at the level ever changed a non-OS call to OS when a GK runs out to complain? Ever? And its a pretty close to automatic caution when running that far to dissent.

Exactly, it's not like it was just a stray arm that caught him - it's the point of his elbow being drawn back and hitting the opponent in the face, with sufficient force to bust his nose.

Yeh, I can accept that. But I'm not sure a natural action is careless, let alone reckless. Jumping with leverage is a natural action
Anyway, like I say, I can live with it. Just dont think VAR had any place getting involved

As for the blood, I fully agree

No chance

VAR wouldn’t have been involved if there was no nosebleed.

VAR would have checked regardless, as they check every potential penalty. With the collision, the VAR was going to look at it. Perhaps it doesn't get sent down without the blood making it obvious, but I'm not convinced.
