It drives me nuts that I am disadvantaged in refereeing with opportunities for training and promotion because I am male, caucasian and started after 37.

But it drives me even more nuts that many people are disadvantaged in far more serious matters because of e.g. gender, race, sexuality.

Until (insert your own favourite verse from War here)… I am firmy in favour of a very positive approach to participation - and I encourage all my colleagues that can take advantage do so!

What makes you believe/feel that you were disadvantaged when you were 37?

The FA are going about this all the wrong way, when you think its just money that is an incentive or a block to something you have such a narrowed view of reality. Does the levelling u here recognise that the BAME population is not 50% and white population 50% so its reasonable to say you wouldn't get half of each interested in the game anyway.

Seems to me the FA are going about it the right way. Although still much to do the number of BAME has increased, whilst the number of Referees as well as retained Referees have increased.

You are making stuff up now. Where has anyone said they want 50/50?
I wish we lived in a society where this wasn't even a conversation but that's just not the reality.

What about white refs disadvantaged say ecomomically or white refs disadvantaged socially? Who decides to do this nonsense levelling up and by what measure? Life isnt level whatever next teams have to have so many BAME players? FFS some ares of UK you struggle to see any BAME and others any whites.

How do you know its not measured 50/50
so glad i didnt train next to others having to pay more it wouldve embarressed me. I dont like thought of hand outs i can achieve things on my own. I dont want players coaches supporters saying im only here amd others too because of the colour of my and others skin. Awful situatiion judge me on my commitmemt and ability to ref matches.

Where I am (not UK) there is a glass ceiling. Under 26 only promoted to top three leagues. Under 26 only access to “real” training courses.
Even though there is some small print that stops it being “official” and discriminatory, I was told when I started top three leagues was impossible. Promotion here is not transparent.

Strictly speaking I was 39 when I started but I use 37 as that used to also be the Fifa cut off age so it is somewhat symbolic.

You wouldn't be sitting next to others that had paid more. They are courses put on specifically for underrepresented minority groups, it isn't the case that you register for a standard course and get it for a fraction of the cost of other people on that course.

That’s a shame.

Segregation? That's good for trying to get people to get on with each other!

I totally understand why the FA does this sort of thing.

I just don't agree with the reasons for doing it.

They can get on with each other once they'd completed the course and meet other referees in changing rooms. It isn't segregation because people from underrepresented groups can join the standard referee courses, and many do.

The courses that are BAME only are segragation.

Segregation is the separation of people into groups, often based on characteristics like race, religion, or gender. It is frequently a form of discrimination, as it can involve keeping people apart without reasonable justification and leading to unfair treatment. While segregation can be voluntary, it is most often discussed in a negative context as a discriminatory practice or policy.

How are they supposed to cope out on the FOP when they encounter white people?

Do you want the FA to discontinue female-only courses also?
Your last question is too silly to deserve an answer.

It would only be segregation if referees from ethically diverse backgrounds could only attend referee courses for that group, that isn't the case and they can book on normal courses.

Your last sentence is beyond ridiculous.
