The Ref Stop

US v Bosnia

My real issue is seeing this as SFP while Messi’s foul in the Algeria game - which had a measure of intent to it - wasn’t even cautioned. Had Messi been shown yellow as he should have been, I think the shouts of inconsistency and star treatment would have been far less.

That’s a feature of VAR, not a bug. Balogun only got “caught” via VAR. If VAR could recommend cautions, I expect Messi would have gotten one.

Have we actually seen what was shown to the R from VAR? I don’t recall seeing that the way we see with many leagues. The broadcast certainly showed slow mo and still, but do we actually know the R looked at it in slow motion rather than being shown the point of contact in a still and the play at full speed? I’ve seen it asserted a lot, but do we know that?

The Ref Stop
I don't know where I read this but broadcasters for the world cup are only allowed to show two replays of VAR review incidents. Also I don't recall seeing any screens as the referees sees it during OFR loke in the EPL. In true fashion of FIFA, they attempt to be the least transparent as possible to avoid revealing any mistakes. They don't seem to care about criticism or controversy. That's a biproduct of monopoly.
