The Ref Stop

Seasonal 5-4

The Ref Stop
I don't think anyone knows, even the FA, at the moment, but my best guess would be that it'll perhaps be on Friday 29th May, which is when the level 4-3 and 3-2 assessment days have been held and the FA can send a list out of everything in one go.

County FA should confirm when you should hear by off The FA as well if nominated.

Was 22nd May last year the 5-4 emails came out from The FA, but know this may be later this year with the L3 Assessment Day date.

And when is the L3 Assessment day date?

I think I am a bit behind the times. Am I right in thinking that whether it be mid-season or end of season, there are no longer any automatic promotions based upon merit tables etc? In other words, are all promotions from 4-3, 3-2 & 2-1 just based upon those invited to assessment days?

There are still automatic promotions.

2-1 doesn't have assessment day this season. Nobody was promoted mid season and I'm led to believe that it will just be a selection of those performing highest.

4-3 and 3-2 still have automatic promotion spaces, but less than there would normally be, because they then invite more people for assessment day to select the remaining spots. So say, for example, if they were looking to promote 6 referees from 3-2, they may promote 2 automatically, then invite 10 to assessment day for the final 4 spots.

I'm not an advocate of these Assessment Days
Composite Merit Table positions are based on 4 or more (usually) observations, countless club marks, seven or eight LOTG tests and the learning modules and engagement. It's like CORE favourite picks, just adds layers of opacity. WRT the former, some refs are being overlooked in favour of others with way inferior merit positions. It's not right

I spose it’s a bit like the promotion play offs throughout the pyramid.

@Big Cat Scouts are coming.

Generally agree with you, one thing I didn't like about the old system as every year a few would fail the fitness test, and that place wouldn't get passed down to the people who just missed out.
