NED v ARG

The Ref Stop
I think Lahoz is fighting a battle he cant win, theres too many expectations on him now, and hes never gonna find this easy, both teams should incur heavy fines imo, off the back of their conduct
Even so and I understand it’s a difficult game but his attitude and body language do not help the management of the game. Going back to the conversations on Michael Oliver, a calming presence in the middle can go a long way if you’re trying not use reds

Yeah fair point, and I take it, but I feel like with he cautions hes shown, people are very quick to discredit the difficulty of this game (not you, but more talking fans and commentary)

I am not enjoying how Lahuz is being portrayed here. It reads like he dosn't know how to referee. Anyone here has tried swimming with their hands tied behind their back? He is in a position of dammed if you do dammed if you don't. Yes he didn't do this and he didn't do that. From the games we have had so far this has been clearly the most difficult. No one knows how any other referee in his position would have done. Anyone remembers Webb only yellow carding a studs up karate kick to the chest?

He's not helped himself by bottling an obvious RC and cautioning anything that gets within 10 yards of Messi and generally falling for non stop diving by Argentina tbf.

Exactly. Looking tough, running around blasting the whistle, having a low bar for yellows and trying to be generally intimidating is all well and good, but once you start becoming visibly reluctant to give reds and second yellows it becomes a very obvious bluff.

And once that happens, you're far worse off than if you've just tried to be a calming presence with a consistent bar.

'Ive given up on the referee and his yellow cards to be fair' says the commentator.

Arguably this is some of the worst conduct weve seen from teams?

Lahoz with a tough game to manage but did his best. Don’t know any other referee who would have managed it any better.

Think the better side on the night got through, but wow! Who got the card in the shoot out?
