The Ref Stop

Level 3/4 Pathway Choice

The Ref Stop
I don't understand why L4's have to specialize to get promoted on the line. Inevitably, this means loads of dual-role referees who are right at the top of the AR merit table are being completely overlooked. Why not offer them the opportunity to be promoted on the basis that they become Step 2 specialist ARs. I can't make sense of the 'need' to specialize

@Big Cat Dual L4s can be promoted on the line, the change is they can no longer continue as a L4 referee if they accept the promotion to Step 2 assistant.
Oh right.... Am surprised a significant number have chosen to specialize on the line then. Middles yeh, but step 3/4 lines every week wouldn't do it for me. I've stuck with dual-role

Also, many on the PL & EFL were all L3 Referees & became specialist AR’s viz Wilks, Hopton, Howson, Nelson, Bartlett, Bennett & more I can’t remember at this moment of time. Main reason being that they have more chance of getting to the top - albeit not as a Referee.

I am third in the AR merit table , but have chosen the referee pathway. Oh well

So that would get you promoted on the line (if you accepted) next season, but not this season just gone?
Probably. Oh well.
I’m 20 and want to push for refereeing. I am probably better at lining , but I got into refereeing to be a referee , so will push for that and see what happens.

Duals could be promoted on the line, and continue as a level 4.
Think only 2 or 3 gone up that way since specialisation started.

When specialist assistants came in at level 4 only specialists could be promoted, with the caveat that they could promote a dual with "exceptional performance".
For the last two seasons it's just based on the merit table, or being part of PGMO programme..

@dylanbailey4444 I'd email me them and say you want to continue as a referee but would accept the promotion on the line while continuing to referee at level 4.
They've changed the goalposts for promotion so maybe there's some leeway.
