Sweating the small stuff here, but I’m surprised to see the match officials wearing a near-identical blue to Newcastle’s goalkeeper, given Newcastle have a green goalkeeper kit that wouldn’t clash with blue (match officials), Newcastle (black/white), Arsenal (red/white) or the Arsenal keeper (yellow).

I’m surprised this sort of thing gets through, while it doesn’t at the lowly highest levels I’m involved with.

At that level team kit overrides referee kit, all down to sponsorship and kit deals.

The clubs submit what kit they will be wearing and the match officials are told what to wear off the back of that.

I have noticed kit clashes more this season more than any other. Teams and officials wearing similar colour shorts and socks.

I think the idea of a shorts and socks clash is all but gone now, very rarely do you see a team change their shorts just for a game, they are more likely to just change the entire kit.

I think the same goes for sleeve clashes as well as I believe man city wear their sky blue against west ham & villa.

Man C wore yellow/black away v West Ham & Villa this season

Ok bad example but I am certain that the idea of a sleeve clash isn't taken as seriously as it would have done in the past.

Our local Sunday league sent out a (rather arsey) message a few months back asking referees why teams were being allowed to play with a sock clash.

I have to say, I scoffed. Of course in LOTG and on a Saturday at 3pm, these things are important. If they think I'm asking a bunch of lads with no changing room at 10:15am on a Sunday while it's p*ssing down to change their socks because they clash, they're mistaken. With respect I feel like the league's first port of call in that scenario should be to it's clubs to ask them to be more vigilant in pre-match confirmation regarding sock colours and secondarily to referees advising them of what had been said and asking for sock clash scenarios to be reported post match.

I was at the game
I was astonished at the lack of atmosphere from the home fans. By far the quietest ground I've ever come across
Absolute carnage in the away end though
Brooks is one of the worst PGMOL refs. I don't rate him at all. Pawson was VAR, I think. What a combination that was. Fortunately, they had very little involvement and we were spared any in-stadium announcements or any reason for VAR to spoil the game. I'd go as far as to say Brooks had an OK game
