The Ref Stop

IFAB changes for 26-27

The Ref Stop
And I am corrected. It certainly does read that way.

Either way, in the scenario you describe, I think if I did stop play I'd be calling the physio on immediately. You want it stopping, you have treatment, not just a rest.

I think I would too! We’ve stopped the game just for you, now you may as well have your ‘injury’ looked at and treated because you’re off for a minute anyway!

I don’t think that’s correct (although I stand to be corrected)
The referee stopping the game for an injury doesn’t mean the player needs to leave the field, it’s if the physio enters the field.
Many referees if stopping the game will automatically call for the physio though, as if the injury isn’t that bad, they shouldn’t have stopped it.
We are going to get into semantics about the difference between the referee stopping play and the referee delaying the restart of play to ask the player whether they need the physio🤔

The simple way to look at this is if the restart is a dropped ball then the player has to go off for a minute.
Any other it requires the physio to enter.

Referee gets hit by the ball by accident and possession changes. Player down injured. Referee asks if he wants treatment and he says no.
Player has to go off? 🤔

😉 only joking

Appreciating that our regular IFAB contact is via @JamesL I saw that he is busy sorting @RefereeX out, so I e-mailed IFAB directly with a LOTG question.
The reference to 20-25 seconds when deciding whether a player can remain on the f. o. p. after being injured in a caution/dismissal offence has been removed from the law, but was still in the guidance for match officials.
IFAB have confirmed that the guidance should have been removed, and will be taken out in the next issue.

Don't worry about me I can multi task.

I don't think it ever appeared in law. It was always in the guidance notes.

Im assuming the exception for players to remain on field of play still exists so surely there still needs to be some guidance on that? Or do I really need to stop posting and RTFL?

Law 5 wording has been changed by the removal of the requirement for a quick assessment, so now there is no time limit.

Reactions: ARF
Anyone else seeing potential issues with the change that a player being subbed must leave the FoP within 10 seconds, but "if a player who is to be substituted refuses to leave, play continues" being left in?

I just feel like the whole 10 second sub thing is pointless but whenever a team are trying to wind down the clock that player will be ‘injured’ thus cancelling the 10 second rule. I hope I’m proved wrong.

If he's 'injured' call the physio on. Player safety 😉

Perhaps it's time to read the law changes. Had assumed once treated the one minute off the pitch would apply.

This will be a joy with rolling subs...
