IFAB has to overcomplicate every procedure, or is the practice of not overusing the whistle something of old men yonder?Blowing the whistle before beginning the five second countdown for throw-ins and goal kicks.
I don't see the benefit of this, potential for confusion and why not just put your hand in the air and bellow five it isn't easily missed.
Makes sense for a longer restart such as goalkicks, or restarts following a long pause like an injury or hydration break, but absolutely nonsensical to be a requirement to blow the whistle for otherwise routine throw ins. Such is common the more IFAB meddles and restricts the referees discretion to control. Much confusion to follow this season.
