How long before Coronavirus impacts Football?

Stolen from another poster site but I do agree:- once government says football can restart, then Sky will decide how/when what happens to this season etc.

We/fans/clubs can rant and moan as much as we want and the FA/PL can pretend to make the decisions but the real decision making will be done by the paymasters - football - at least England - can't afford it to be any other way.

Agree with that, but I also strongly suspect the government will insist that all games are broadcast live free to air, the only exceptions being those that were already scheduled for live coverage. The 3pm UK broadcast restriction has already been suspended to allow that to happen, although realistically few games would be at that time.

100% of Premier League games are filmed by Premier League productions and shown overseas anyway, so it makes no odds to Sky and BT. They get to start charging subscription fees again, the general populous gets a glut of football, everyone is happy.

According to the betting exchanges, it's 50/50 that we'll see the EPL by August, suggesting a high chance the season will be terminated in some way
We'd all like to see some footy back on the tele, but the season should be canned imo (reluctant acceptance)

Agree with most and the possible solution but can't agree with 'It makes no difference to Sky' Under that plan they would lose their joint UK exclusivity and would surely withhold some rights money as a result.

Not really, they wouldn't lose subscribers as the agreed freeze is only until live sports return so only those at the end of contracts could leave. At the moment they are losing as much as £100 million per month assuming everyone has chosen to freeze, they will be desperate to get things back up and running. The government also hold all of the cards so they can set the conditions, and Sky being able to show games and charge subscriptions with other games being shown free to air has to be better for them than not being able to show anything.
 
Up North in Santa land it was announced last night that from 1.6 gatherings of up to 50 and recreational activities are allowed, leagues are now working out if there can be matches in June before the summer break starts from
Midsummer (21.6).

Considering get close to zero fans from the 5th tier down, we might well have some games. Now waiting in the nat/loc FAs.

Did you hear the one about saving money this Xmas @santa sangria you’ve to tell them that he got caught in the pandemic and Xmas is cancelled this year! How much money would that save a furloughed Yorkie with 5 grandchildren 😂
 
I saw a note on the FA Hive site confirming that the L4 and 3 fitness tests in June and July are postponed, with one suggestion being not likely until September or October at earliest.

L3 fitness test change has also been deferred to end of next season.

Yes, received the email just yesterday to advise the same message.

I heard a phone in caller saying (Taylor) was foolish in thinking he could change the laws and FIFA would never endorse it, however, it is worth reminding ourselves as referees of the actual Laws, which would indeed make allowance of a duration change.

( am not saying I think it will happen or whether I agree etc), simply that, with the teams, referee and organising bodies permission, its entirely possible and legal to play say, 2 30 mins.

Except somewhere in the competition rules it would state that the game must be played for the full 90 minutes for the result to be regarded as valid. On the National League System in England, games cannot be played for less than 90 minutes. Know your laws, but also know your competition rules.

I would make a guess the competition laws could be amended, esp given as I doubt few, if any, contained a, global pandemic , clause....

the duration could be changed, its not impossible, as the phone in caller indicated
