The Ref Stop

Thought it was a dive personally, minimal upper body contact (deffo not a shoulder I'm the back) which was never enough to make him hit the deck
I’m not sure it’s a dive, though I don’t think it’s a pen. You can see at the point of the contact, Doku’s foot gets caught in the turf which is what he actually trips over. Dodgy pitch if you ask me!

The Ref Stop
If you thought the gamesmanship by Italy was frustrating, be glad you didn't just watch the copa America quarter. Brazil take it to a whole new level! So many defensive dives given as fouls, feigning injury, time wasting, kicking the ball away...so poor (from a spectators perspective) to watch

Unfortunately referees reward it way too often. I didn't watch this game with Brazil but I'm going to guess after they went down a man that the referee could have justified 8 or 10 minutes of added time. Until we regularly start seeing referees address it will just continue to be part of the game.

Referees aren't going to address it until its directed from above and I can't see that happening. Even if it does then I don't see it being effective for long.

What it needs is pressure from tv broadcasters, only then will it be addressed. We watched one of the best games of football in years for 80 mins and then we endured 15 minutes of cheating. What shoudlve been a thrilling climax to an exciting game turned into facilitated cheating, facilitated by the knowledge of all involved that it was cheating but theres nothing that would be done about it (and acceptance from the Belgium players that they'd have done the same thing in all likelihood).

Stop clock trial is required to rid the game of all this nonsense. The sooner the US broadcasters push for and trial this the better. I think its being talked about already.

There were a few times where the ref let himself down IMHO. At the penalty he was very passive with the Italian complaints, meek, and the GK made him look a bit daft. Could have used the hair drier.

And at the encroachment at the free kick. He didn’t use the spray, was poorly positioned (too far forward again), didn’t see the encroachment (he’s told on comms I think) and then doesn’t deal with the positioning of the player again and doesn’t use the spray again.

Spino’s injury was unfortunate.

In the England game, Pickford had a ball in his hands for 24 seconds.

8 mins extra would have been fairer than 7 but the way the Italians managed the end of the game is football.

Yeah the encroachment was poorly managed, as you say there's no way he saw it.

The way the Italians managed it is football, but it shouldn't be. We (referees as a community) let players and teams get away with it week in week out. It ruins football as a spectacle, I don't get why more (anything) isn't done to stop it.

What a horrible miss for the corner that was given that led to Denmark 🇩🇰 first goal.

Once given Czech should have done better defending though.

Just seen a previous comment about which refs have been sent home / are still there.

How do I keep up to date?

Anyone got any links or anything?

I don’t think it presented well that Soucek played the last 10 mins with a lot of blood down his neck.

Czechs were poor really.
