It’s exactly the same as happened to Madley. Someone who he thought was a friend leaked it. Happens within the celebrity world a lot.

No idea who the lad is or if it was even him that leaked it. Could be an ex-partner, who knows.

Looks like they had a few too many drinks one evening in lockdown

Even if his words are how he actually felt or not, I doubt the guy next to him was the leaker, most likely someone in the group was a bit upset by some of his decisions this weekend.
 
Not entirely sure it's fully comparable to the Bobby Madley incident, as Madley said something discriminatory, where as Coote's are remarks that he would be expected not to be making.

Edit to add: Didn't realise at the time of writing he used the words 'German c*nt'. As others have pointed out, this also potentially passes in to discrimination territory.

Theres enough animosity against him already for a few previous incidents, so he'll probably just get taken off all big 6 games permanently as a precaution. It has to be their direct rivals as well as just liverpool games, as a certain game which he refereed a few years ago is being scrutinised again, and will put pressure on the PGMOL make sure his matches are kept separate. Doubt anything more than that will happen. Stupid thing to do especially on camera, and puts the pressure on the rest of the actually competent referees. Whether the punishment is stronger remains to be seen, though someone in another thread mentioned that it could be AI, which isnt completely implausible
 
I genuinely hope it is AI and isn’t real. But if it is, PGMOL lose a lot of credibility keeping him around. Yes he hasn’t said anything discriminatory, and had he just called Klopp what he calls him, he can have a slap on the wrist and move on. But the part around hating Liverpool and scousers could be the bit that tips him over the edge.

If it’s real he will never referee another Liverpool game again. But he also won't really be able to referee Everton due to his apparent hatred of scousers. He then can’t really referee any of Liverpool's rivals in the league table (top half) or any of Everton’s rivals (bottom half)

It was a fairly quiet weekend of referee controversies, so this won’t be welcomed with opened arms in PGMOL headquarters.

What I would say is that the contracts they have tend to be fairly ironclad these days. So I don’t know what grounds they’d have to sack him.
 
With the potential of it being AI, I will give my two pence. In my unprofessional opinion there is too much of a human aspect in the movement and the shakiness of the camera so unfortunately for DC he could be seeing some hefty punishment.

the comparison is that it was sent/said in a private setting then made public - nothing to do with the content
 
Not similar to Madley, I'm disabled and found what he said really hurtful BUT he could recover that by making amends.

Something like this I just don't see being turned around...
 
For his sake I want someone to say this is AI. If it’s real, whether deliberate or not, PGMOL will lose all respect and credibility keeping him and he should have his contract ripped up straight away, like Bobby Madley did. He will never come back from that regardless.
 
Maybe I'm in the minority here but I don't see what he said on camera that would make him lose his contract. You could make allowances he was drunk and the only reference to Liverpool in that clip was about their former manager.

If he has said something that would imply he would show an bias against Liverpool or made derogatory remarks about Liverpool I think he's on a slippery slope but he didn't in the clip and his mate was the one who claimed "we hate scousers".

Your last paragraph is the bit that I think will help his case to get off with a lighter punishment. But PGMOL are under scrutiny continuously, sometimes rightly and a lot of the time wrongly. But keeping DC around will linger like a bad smell for them.
