What's the most cautions you've given in a game without reckless tackles?

Seven today, but I'm sure I recall a sunday with a few more - I think it was nine.

    Disaster Match

Well, after last week's injury, I thought today I might get a game where the football is good and everyone's having a good time - no chance. From the very start, captains mouthing off at each other. I've tried to broker peace but they're not having it, I could have given them C1AA then but...

Quite right, slipped my mind for a moment there.

    U18 Referee Abuse

So, for 'stupid b****' really your only option is a red card for OFFINABUS. If someone called me that I wouldn't have it, and we shouldn't let players put up with it either. Asking for information about the away side's players is a serious safeguarding issue and should be raised with your...

    Unpleasant Moment!

From last sunday's men's game - two players jump to head for the ball. One of them allegedly headbutts the other, and the other player reacts with a clear trip - quick on the whistle, and as I'm wondering if there's a yellow in it the originally aggreived player makes my mind up for me by trying...

    A cheeky battle

I'm coming to slowly think that then we starting thinking that we'll do teams favours by letting things go and try to negotiate with them, we don't actually help them or ourselves. Some games we can clearly relax a little, but otherwise I think I definitely need to be readier with the cards at...

    Mass brawl

Football...bloody hell seems to cover it! If someone in the league is asking you to stay when you feel unsafe, find another league, I can guarantee there's someone out there who isn't going to ask you to put yourself in danger for a few bob on a sunday morning! Grab one from each team, ideally...

    Interesting U13 experience

So today in a county cup game, a team only had ten players - fine, such is life in many leagues. They're being thrashed, partly because of the extra player, but also because they're a bit pants, but ho hum. Home coach is screaming at his players and is surprised they're not motivated. First...

I'd played advantage because there was actually a promising attack coming from it that went nowhere so I brought it back, tried to get the captain to come over but he wasn't interested. In retrospect I could have just whacked the yellow out as soon as I blew and that might have saved me some...

    8 Red Cards

They'd have united and gone for him! Imagine what would have happened if someone had scored a goal!

So, for those who were interested... Bloody hell! From the start I had trouble, potential yellow for dangerous tackle from blue captain, tried to warn him and he just walked off so clearly talking to the players wasn't going to work. Almost the next kick was a foul in a promising area from...

This will be on the United Counties League, I've gone to the ground before and it's a nice set up, I'm just wondering if I'll be able to keep up and whether my interpretation of the Laws (particularly jumping, arms in the back, and shoulders) will match what the players are expecting.

One absolute mare that was by far and away the worst game I've had, then the second one went much better. I'm pretty happy with how my own refereeing has progressed, and I did have a cup game earlier in the season inolving a team from this level which went pretty well but that was towards the...

I'm on a promotion season so I have got feedback on my regular games, I'd like to see how well someone more experienced thinks I adapt to a more difficult fixture. It's the reserve division for a step 6-5 league, usually I'm on Sunday League and youth football in the area, with some...

Hi all, I've been asked to take a reserve game for a county league and I'd appreciate it if someone would be availble to come down and cast their expert eye on proceedings - I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, but this is the level that I want to be officiating at next year and if anyone's...

Are you putting that through ref?

Trust me I coach that age group, the ball could be on the line about to roll in and I still wouldn't be sure of it! That said, unless a kid at that age is getting violent I'm very unlikely to get a card out at all.

Packing it in for a month

Saturday went well - had a decent enough game, no huge outstanding points one way or the other, but Sunday, bloody sunday! First game with my first promotion observation, let the nerves get to me, didn't stamp things out early enough, game got away from me and I'm expecting a 'below-average'...
