I had this on Saturday.
In the defensive half I'm not too bothered and mostly let them get on with it unless it is howlingly out of place.
In the attacking half I was reasonably directive with the first few, and whistled to bring back 5 yards or so. After that they would just give me a look...
Did you do it the second time to check that you'd made a mistake the first time?! 😉
If so, that is a pretty sound methodology, but I'd avoid increasing the number of replicates and end your data collection.
As an Argyle fan...
I'm not convinced it's a dive, but I'm also pretty sure it's not a penalty either. I think his right leg (knee/thigh) makes contact with the thigh of the defender, hence the lack of follow through.
I try very very hard not to say 'next time...'
"Just so that it is clear, you are now getting close to my tolerance. Be careful you don't step over it."
Or words to that effect.
Stop the watch and wait. If the ball in on the pitch then they are entitled to kick it as hard and as far as they want. I'd make it really obvious that you are adding time back on.
If the ball is (clearly) off the pitch and they do it, then I would be cautioning them.
