What distance are you covering per game?

For those who track this, on average per game what sort of distance are you covering. I'm just interested to see how I compare to others! I'm using the addidas speed cell and must say its a brilliant piece of kit. When I was jogging I used a garmin GPS watch, which was obviously a great piece...

    Foreign players

I think this is an interesting one. I don't think I could sell a red for something said in a language I don't understand as the report would be wooly. But a yellow is possible depending how it was said. At the weekend I had one player ask if I was joking when I gave a free kick. I explained I...

How much do you pay attention to what is happening in a game?

@HullRef I'm the same. I've literally seen 100's of goals but could only remember one or two of them. Or example had 10 goal in an 8-2 game and literally cant remember any of them!

How much do you pay attention to what is happening in a game?

Yes of course we're watching for fouls etc. But how closely do you find yourself noticing the formations teams are playing etc and how a game might turn out. I tend to take a keen interest and quickly work out formation and style teams are playing, mainly cause it helps work out where the all...

No wonder players think we make it up

Ah but you've forgotten that player managers, in their mind, are above all LOTG. So they can mouth off and question any decision and change between being a player and manager as they see fit to question your decisions.

Handball in the box - 2015 edition!

Handball for me has to be deliberate no matter where it is on the pitch. Which means for me to give a pen its got to be 100% nailed on. That said it can cause issues Had a game a few weeks back, home team scored three goals, all of which came from attackers inadvertently handball. One was...

    You are the Ref moment

I could only imagine you'd caution him for being a wizard to pull off such a trick like that!

    US amateur match abandoned

@Owen Webster I done exactly the same, was fully expecting some crazy mass brawl. In fairness we've all been there when we've had enough and just fancy walking off to get home early, this ref is living out all our fantasies.

    Did this today

Personally any mandatory caution I'm going for it. If I get to do it before kick off even better. Because if 22 players think I'm a right jobsworth then there will be no complaints from them when the lemons start coming out. I would also say to turn a blind eye doesnt help match control. I...

    Did I get this right?

To be honest you can take it as a learning experience. Nothing much came from it so no need to worry.

    Did I get this right?

Personally sounds like the initial advantage makes sense. However the kick out I'd be blowing for. Mainly because that would have escalated into something bigger, other players getting involved etc. But if no one complained at the time then I'd say you didnt do too badly.

    Essex County Cup Final

Even better, turns out one of the teams is managed by a current manager of a side in the championship! It's like I've hit the big time!

Cardiff v Bournemouth - Disallowed Goal

Personally I think the keeper is a bit of a lemon for managing to hit the player with a kick. I mean literally anywhere other than that. One point is who knows exactly what the ref is looking at. He's probably expecting the attacker to make a move so is concerned about getting up field, so...

    Prematch meal

You joke @Padfoot the other week had my game called off as I was driving over and rang the missus so she suggested I get McDonalds on the way back. So I did. Just as I finished eating got a call from a local team seeing if I was around as their ref hadnt turned up. I'm NEVER eating a meal...

Opposition manager asking for name of booked player

I've refereed them before and he played. Also putting the caution through the WGS his name was on there. But I guess they might be hunting around for something. I'm not worried about it at all, but it is a bit strange!

Opposition manager asking for name of booked player

At the weekend I had a league cup semi final second leg. Green v Red. Greens are leading the first leg 1-0. Greens go on to win the second leg I refereed 2-1, making it 3-1 on agg. Pretty standard game. Bit of needle at points, but no more than your average cup game. Late in the second...

    Push occurring off the field

In true ref style I'll say the free kick was obviously for the initial contact as the forward tried to go around the defender, not the over the top push that happened off the pitch! ;)

    Push occurring off the field

So at the weekend green v red. Red is running down the wing and cuts inside to go in the box. He knocks it past the defender and goes to run around him by running off the pitch. The defender spots this and takes a step off the pitch to make it harder for the attacker to get around. As the red...

    Junior/Youth Dealing with people after

It is obviously up to you what you do. But please don't ignore things if you think he'll just deny it. I used to think being abused was part and parcel of being a ref and to a degree it is. But you shouldn't be made to feel bad when leaving your game for any reason. Ultimately we all do this for...

    Ibrahimovic Red Card

I will say on this point, yes Chelsea have a bad reputation. However its things like this red that give them this rep. There is no defending the way they surrounded the referee.
