    Level of Referee

To hopefully put the conspiracy theorists to bed, it was just me being interested why a Referee would place a L7 on a Senior Line for his first game on a Step 5 League (despite being AR1 on MOAS) & I believed to be a more experienced Referee (& is a L5) on the other line. I can only imagine the...

    Level of Referee

Ok - thank you & at least I know/had it confirmed. In the end, a short while ago I went to the appointments officer of the league the AR I wanted to know about was appointed to & he came straight back to me with the information I was seeking. If I was that determined if the AO wasn’t around etc...

    City v Wolves

That’s the point I was attempting to make - it’s not deliberate handball. However, whilst the laws have attempted to clarify with natural/unnatural arm positions - some are just taking it too far & not taking into account that if they didn’t have their arms out for balance they would fall flat...

    City v Wolves

I think we are likely to see that if the same incident that happened yesterday with the Wolves player than the Referees in the World Cup will be awarding a penalty. However, in my world of ‘deliberate’ handball, never in a million years. We have got it right with what the Laws were originally...

    Level of Referee

Is there any form of database that I can tap into to find out the level of a Referee without having to either ask the person himself/herself or the County FA?

    City v Wolves

My view is that the initial decision not to award a penalty was fine & the defender’s arm in a natural position & similar to that of the City forward close by (for reference). I am also content for VAR to have referred the Referee to have a look again at the incident & congratulate the Referee...

    Annual level 5-4

I was also pleased to see Jonathan Wilks being promoted to L2. He has been a L3 for quite a few years & was mentored/coached by the late Gary Willard, whereby if he was still around, he would have been over the moon.

    Annual level 5-4

That is a lot of L4’s for a mid-season promotion (though I haven’t looked back to last season’s mid-season). Hope the system can cope & that they can get regular games in the middle & not just on the line, albeit on the line will provide them with valuable experience. I was interested to see...

    Man Utd vs Man City

I don’t really have a problem with KH, especially since his view is also subjective based upon years of experience, but to say HW is not fit for purpose for what was a subjective decision was unfair & inappropriate for the positions he has held in the past and that he holds now.

    Man Utd vs Man City

He also had it in for Mike Riley with the connection being clear - both held/hold the position he once had. He has also gone sour on HW after he was hoping for better things, especially since HW became a PL Referee on his watch (I think).

    EFL referee appointments

If it is ZKK, then he has had a quick rise to where he is. What I can say is that I have Observed him as a L4 & L2 and the improvement seen from a raw L4 to L2 was the difference between night & day. He listens & takes on board the information like a sponge - though only adopts what he believes...

    Man Utd vs Man City

I have noticed that based upon Howard Webb’s comments, Mr Keith Hackett has not only launched an attack on the VAR on the game (who didn’t ask the Referee to view the incident) now being appointed to a high profile game, but has decreed that Howard Webb is not fit for purpose. I agree with...

    2026 Potential Law Changes

That to me seems appropriate, so much so that the only appeal I have received this season - which was self referred, was because I realised 7 days after the game in question from having a senior moment, that I suggested that to the Referee, that this is what he could of done at a time wasting...

    2026 Potential Law Changes

The period since Jan 2021 includes Covid, but I get your point, though the trials have been extended to other county FA’s/competitions & likely to grow further, perhaps to all, though with the costs involved it’s perhaps not a surprise the FA had to roll them out over a period of time.

    Brighton v Bournemouth Penalty

Referees get in the neck whatever they do - he gave a brave caution (often criticised for not making their own mind up), but then as you say VAR probably had to intervene. However, could the Referee not just have said not sufficient/minimal contact & therefore no penalty!

    Arrested for an elbow/assault

Or so long ago that prices have since risen. My view at the time was that it was nothing like the incident from a few days ago & that I didn’t much see wrong with the players nose at the time & continued to play in both games, but at the end of the day, a head butt/VC is exactly that. Strangely...

    Arrested for an elbow/assault

Any player at the receiving end of VC can refer the issue to the police, but if the incident is seen on-line & especially when it goes viral as in this case, then the police are likely to intervene anyway. It does help, but not a 100% requirement if at least one of the officials identifies the...

Fairly good percentage, but those 30 who missed out will I suspect be very disappointed.

    Luton v Swindon Sub error

Swindon are claiming that FA confirmed with them that Clarke’s ban did not include games played in the Vertu Trophy & have a lawyer on both those and the unnamed player on the team sheet. If by saying that they checked on the Portal that the Vertu Trophy is not included for suspensions, then we...
