The Ref Stop
Because the referee would need to have a certainty that he would be getting onto the end of the cross.

I can't remember any occasions of DOGSO where it has been a cross in and a player who might have got onto the end of it being fouled.
This is how close he got while being pulled back. It's an obvious goalscoring opportunity for me.

I understand the argument, but I can’t think of a single example from a professional game in which a foul before a potential header was called as DOGSO. Based on that, I don’t think DOGSO is the expected call (assuming it is a foul). (I don’t really have an opinion on whether it is a foul as I’ve only seen still shots, which can’t prove anything—I was amused by a media take that it doesn’t look like he is slowed down by the pull at full speed, but you can tell he was at 1/4 speed. Exactly the kind of thing slow mom is NOT supposed to be used for by a VAR. My gut is that a VAR would not have sent down either way, call or no call on the PK.)

Only seen the extended highlights. The game seemed to have a high bar for referee intervention for big decisions. This tends to happen when big clubs play against other big clubs. Referees are very cautious on impacting the outcome of the game. While the shirt pull incident was a much clearer decision, there were other penalty shouts and at least 2 red cards that could have gone either way. The referee decided to not get involved in all of them.

Denied a free header from 7 yards out by way of an unsporting shirt pull. Straight forward DOGSO with a strong hint of cheating. I don't think Isak realized the impact the pull had on his momentum. I think he's still has at the stage of having the potential to be a 'top player', but he's not there yet as a 'top player' would have gotten Timber sent off for this. His meek reaction means this mistake by the refereeing team will probably get swept under the carpet and the stats will remain at 99.9% perfection or whatever

As others have said, rightly or (most likely) wrongly, in the professional game there is a clear expectation that if a pull / hold stops the possibility of a player reaching a cross, it is penalised as SPA rather than DOGSO. I guess this is because the perceived likelihood of the attacker gaining control / making a controlled play is not deemed to be clear cut enough. As I say, I'm not defending this, just stating that I would not have expected a red card if this play had been penalised as a foul

OK, fair enough to point out the Pro Ref expectation
It's wrong though. It's denied (a potentially) world class player a free header from the middle of the goal from 7 yards out
But OK, your statement puts me back in my box regarding the Pro Ref DOGSO bollox

Unusually, I watched most of this game. I watch Newcastle games, but rarely watch other games. Rarely watch MOTD, but frequently watch EFL highlights. That tells you everything (you already know) about where I'm at with elite football
I thought AM had a good game
I'd say it's a cast iron rule of mine, that I'm not giving a PK in the absence of an appeal (else I'm probably having a stinker). When we make a KMD (and if we're on the ball on any given day), we factor in all the evidence, and an appeal the absence of an appeal (unless it's low level or younger ages in youth football) is a very very strong influencer, because it almost always means we've seen something that didn't happen. Isak's meek reaction therefore means that AM was wise in his assessment of all the on-field evidence. However, this is one of those frequent occasions when the VAR can of worms adds nothing and subtracts a lot because the replays were subtly damming

Mac Allister shouldn't have made it to 90 mins though.
His two footed block was Reckless and his other antics were typical of why I usually change channel

Skiving from work, I just subjected myself to Ref Watch
Should we have a vote on who the worst contributor is!? Gallagher, Bothroyd or Sherwood. Good grief, WALOFS!
What's happened to Warnock and Smith? SW is rarely far off the mark and walks the floor with those three muppets
