Seems to me that this injury trick occurred in at least 3 matches tonight.
Leeds v Sunderland

Then you've got players going down with head injuries in penalty areas that actually dont have head injuries but force game to be stopped AND they get possession of the ball.

Lots of game management that IFAB could quite literally deal with by means of players not allowed near touchline if players go down injured. Head injuries force player off for proper assessment - i mean they thought they were that hurt to stay down and force the game to be stopped rather than just get up and continue.

This tactic does indeed make it difficult for referees not to stop the game. However possession of the ball (via a drop ball) is not guaranteed to the defensive team just because the 'injury' is in the penalty area

My solution to this is Roll on Roll off sub for goalkeeper injuries at the highest level. If the GK can walk out to the edge of the penalty area he can walk off behind the goal and get replaced immediately. Genuine contact injuries can be treated as normal.
Also a lot of injuries could be treated without stopping play. An example was the Bradley injury. The player could easily have been treated on the sideline with play continuing. In addition on any injury a team should play short for a significant period of time including no substitution. Players just sit down now even if they can easily walk to the touchline with no injury. In injuries involving a caution a substitution can be made immediately.
Once there is a situation where there is more benefits than disadvantages it will get abused which is happening now with these tactical stoppages and questionable injuries.
 
Even without a law change the professional competitions could issue a warning that further similar incidents will have the circumstances assessed, and clubs charged with bringing the competition into disrepute where it is considered probable that the injury was non-existent or exaggerated.
 
I was at the Rotherham game last night, (Third picture.) it was definitely used for the "tactic" purpose, Rotherham were all over Mansfield at this point, the ball then got cleared and back into the Rotherham defence, they were passing it about and the keeper just sat down, physio came on, pretended to do physio on his knee then on they went, the goalkeeper making a surging run to clear the ball straight after. it took the sting out of the game, which was its obvious purpose. Very frustrating

Clubs consider there is often a breakdown between Referees & themselves, but there is now becoming a disconnect between a Manager & spectators. The Manager dictates a tactical injury which spectators/neutral/television public do not want. They say VAR is killing the game, but this is too - Managers don’t often see the game as entertainment, they see it as their job to pay the bills so need to win at whatever cost that is.

Agree, but with the hire and sack, and win at all cost, cultures that now apply at all levels of football I'm not sure we can blame any manager from seeking any possible changes to gain a competitive advantage.

This is an easy one to fix though, whether make an outfield player go off for a minute, or implement an exclusion zone around the technical areas whilst treatment is taking place. The options are there but for reasons only they know IFAB have chosen not to see this as a priority and instead are focusing on issues that are nowhere near as disruptive to the game or the spectator experience.
 
I reckon we will end up with timeouts OR a mid half break in a few years.
Whilst a rule is being abused to effect what is essentially a timeout but this is likely something that football (participants) clearly want the ability to do.
I think if it was allowed the rest of football (spectators) would come to accept it.

Oh we are absolutely going there, starting with this year's world cup where they will no doubt get adverts into the cooling breaks. Once the genie is out of the bottle it is very difficult to get it back in.

I don't think fans will initially accept it, but they will have to over time as it will absolutely be happening.

Neither of which, especially a forced break, would stop the keeper tactical injury practice. It may improve it a little. It will keep happening and it will become more frequent until there is a 'cost' to the team.

Especially since they are doing “cooling breaks” regardless of temperature, including in temperature controlled domes. I’d love to know how much this was discussed in selling the tv rights . . .

Yep, don't care that it is only 15C, you are having a cooling break. The problem is FIFA do so much spinning they get to the point of believing their own spin, if they keep telling themselves it is for the good of the game they will manage to forget the reality, which is that it is to line their pockets.
 
I'm expecting teams to want 'cooling breaks' in my games this weekend after a couple of days of 14/15°C, I'll be saying no but I'm sure a goalkeeper will get injured at some point in each half and the teams will pop over to their respective benches and there's nothing I'll be able to do about it...
 
What makes me laugh, after being a player in one of these time-out huddles', is that a lot of the information is just - "Oi you - get in to number 7s face', or 'Try and play more direct behind the left back' - hardly any great tactical insight (admittedly this may be because of the level I was at!!

I also watch Bunch of Amateurs with Dorking Wanderers and they always seem to have a tactical break mid way through a half (National League South), and their instructions are never anything too intricate that needs a stoppage - normally something that can be just shouted on!

Obviously just something managers want to do so they feel like they can have more influence on a game, or to kill momentum of the other team, but to call them 'tactical' breaks or team talks would be overselling what actually happens!

Issue with that is... whats the restart?
Is the restart with the team who are currently getting instructions? So you wait.

As the poster said above, when at low lever/grassroots, the tactical part may seem funny as its just very basic stuff.
But in the professional game, so many things go into tactics that, watch closely, you may have 2 or 3 coaches giving instructions. Its not just instructions though. Its a breather. Its a drinks break.
Run yourself in to the ground for 25 minutes, manufacture a break and grab a drink/breather to be able to run another 20 or so minutes (added time). Repeat in second half.

How about I just drop the ball on the half way line on the opposite side to where they are all receiving their instructions? I’m ready let’s get on with it! 😂😂😂

I recall a video of a youth game somewhere around the world where I think the ref restarted play and a kid (may have been thr keeper!) ran entire length of pitch to score.
Now, I dont recall it touching another player before he ran off with it and scoring but everyone was on the sidelines.
 
Just seen that Dubravka went down, softly, and got a free kick and stayed down...

All Burnley players rush to Parker to receive instructions on how to stop Fulhams onslaught.
Backfired when they conceded minutes later to make it 2-1 Fulham.

Really hate this tactic and glad I see the women are taking this a bit more serious.
