The Ref Stop

Wolves vs City

Offside was called on the field (I think). VAR correctly saw this as C&O error. Interference was a subjective decision so CK was called to the screen. All done correctly for me.
OK, I suppose that would make sense. Jury decision depends on whether AR on field decision was wrong

The Ref Stop
Offside on field. Subjective call, so should it have been reviewed?
Yes, because it isn't really subjective. The AR obviously thought that Silva had blocked Sa's view, whereas he was nowhere near his line of vision at the time of the header. Therefore the on-pitch decision was clearly and obviously wrong and a review was needed.

The pundits are only saying they think it should be disallowed because they think that Silva's actions before Stones headed the ball should be taken into account when judging offside, and that is obviously not the case.

Not really important, but for some reason Constantine Hatzidakis and Tom Bramall swapped halves (and flags) at half time so it was Con who flagged it.
Did he flag it? This footage clearly shows AR CH indicates goal, he may have been told to raise his flag later?

Not best footage, but could only post a still photograph & not video due to file size.

AR didn't flag it. PGMOL blagged it
No indication of incorrect on-field decision. No appeal by GK or any defensive player

There would've been a discussion between AR and CK because player was offside position was clear but offside offence needed consideration, but there's no indication of an incorrect decision. The PGMOL statement doesn't add up
In all seriousness, strong whiff of PGMOL being disingenuous to justify the process, although that would leave them exposed if/when full audio is released

I think the possible reason is quite obvious when you think about it.

The high possibility would of been City would be dominant so more potential decisions would be at their end of the pitch so put the experienced linesman there instead of a rookie. Seems a sensible decision too me.

Unnecessary
VAR adjudicates all AR KMSs. Ultimately. Seems a strange and unnecessary thing to do. Either both ARs are EPL ready or they're not

I didn’t watch the game, but if Tom Bramall was AR and Richard West was 4th, I’m guessing Richard went down with injury and they had to swap

Well they're absolutely not

I'd suggest a step 1 or 2 AR has better competence on the line than Tom Bramhall

Who is Tom Bramhall? Was there an Injury?
Like I say, makes little odds these days. AR owns non-KMSs only. Tech owns KMSs

Anyway, follow the process we all get sick of repeating every week and this discussion isn't even happening (unless it was indeed VAR interference)

Tom was originally 4th official as he referees rather than AR. I’m guessing the original AR, Richard West, went down injured so they swapped. Then think the 2 AR’s then swapped sides at half time.

Well the pundits and commentators at the ground said that the AR flagged it well before that PGMOL tweet came out. I suspect they were chatting over comms, ref asked AR if Silva was offside and then said in that case he was interfering and therefore to raise the flag.

One thing I really hate is AR’s signalling goal. Has always annoyed me, but generally has no bearing on anything. But on occasions like today, I think it’s led to a bit more confusion.

Why therefore did all the defenders trudge crestfallen back to halfway before a roar from the crowd as the first indication of a problem was the big screen announcing a review and ref TV signal?

There are more questions than answers but a circus came to town because the process appeared all wrong. If the flag did indeed go up, we can wrap it up as a mistake caused by a ref running the line, but I doubt it

Has Bramall reffed a game this season?
He hasn’t done anything in the PL this season bar today. I could tell he was struggling a bit. No idea why he swapped flags with the other AR at half time. Swapping halves may be understandable but swapping flags is odd.
