The scenario in the Q&A posted above, for one...Can't think of a scenario where there would be an advantage
Bah, wouldn't...The scenario in the Q&A posted above, for one...
From 1000+ matches, I reckon I could probably count on one hand the number of times where advantage could have been applied from an incorrectly taken restart (and none whatsoever that actually come to mind at the moment)... but it's nice to have it there if needed!Bah, wouldn't...
This was my first thought. There are so many foul throws in youth football where possession changes anyway. No point in stop start if it can be avoidedI think the biggest benefit of the overall Law change will be the ability in Youth Football to sometimes allow play to continue from the multitude of genuinely foul throws ….
O don’t see a problem added to by this. If the R thinks it was taken, it was taken. Most rolling starts are when a team rushes to try to do something, if they do it poorly and it goes to the other team, we ignore it. (I’m not so much a fan of the change as think it is harmless.)I understand the concept and thinking behind it, but rolling restarts should be the one thing that must be taken correctly or the ball isn't in play at all. There is already a lot of confusion and lack of consensus regarding "common sense" or "by the book" approaches to things like goal kicks and whether the ball is in play or not. This'll only exacerbate that existing grey area where previously there was none.
@one Penalty kick that rolls off the spot just before it's kicked. No retake if you miss, not even sure if it would count as a goal if they scored (for potential retake purposes).
I think the ball was put ito play as it would have been kicked and clearly moved. If the ball is not put into play even if he doesn't score advantage can't be played. If it scores, then there is no advantage to apply and the PK has not been taken as the ball was not properly put into play at all.
Fair enough. The reason advantage previously couldn’t be applied was the idea the ball was not properly in play. I guess that concept is wiped out by saying advantage can apply. (A bad change IMO, but no one asked me.) I think it does create a change that a missed PK on a rolling ball is still a miss. But I think it is retaken if it scores because either it isn’t “really” properly in play or it scored and was not one of the Pk offenses that forfeits the kick, so the result is a retake.I think the ball was put ito play as it would have been kicked and clearly moved. The new advantage from restart can only apply if the ball is put into play, for which the definition is independent of the resrat process. For example for TI ball is in play once it enters the FOP which has nothing to do with the process followed to cause that condition.
I don't like the change either because it creates a mess and many as yet undefined scenarios like your penalty kick example where a number of different outcomes can be interpreted. See this post I made back in April for some other examples.Fair enough. The reason advantage previously couldn’t be applied was the idea the ball was not properly in play.
