Looking to get some advice from an incident that happened in my U18 game yesterday.
Keeper gathers the ball from a corner and runs to edge of the box to take a quick drop kick, I watch him release it and then turn to watch the drop zone whilst sprinting towards the halfway line. After about 2 seconds I hear the players kicking off in the box behind me so turn to look and see a defender with his arm around an attackers throat and forcefully throw him to the ground. It all calms a few seconds later and I start the red card procedure for the defender.
The CAR comes onto the pitch to tell me what he saw from the attacking team, and what started the melee, which I had assumed would have been the attacking team doing something to the keeper. My thought process is that if I haven't seen what the attacking player has done, I can't take any disciplinary action. I also had no idea which attacking player it was. The CAR was very clear with who it was, and what he did, but was I correct in not taking any disciplinary action as I hadn't actually seen anything?
I did speak to the attacking captain to get him to calm his players down, but is there anything else I can do?
