I think I've been impressed by about 95% of the refereeing/decisions so far with some odd calls being so few and far between....
But watching this Welsh game now... how has the Portuguese referee failed to see a foul on Daniel James down the left wing? Definite yellow card but not even a foul given.

Pogba did react. He started pointing at his back, arguing with the AR and gave a biting gesture. He also said after the game in his interview that Rudiger bit him

In which case I stand corrected.

I saw Pogba moaning to the ref about the touchy-feely attention he was getting from Rudiger behind him but didn't clock him showing any "biting gesture?"

I certainly didn't see any clear bite albeit that Rudiger (quite bizarrely) certainly put his mouth on Pogba's shoulder blades.

In spite of what Pogba said post-match, I'm pretty sure that if he'd felt a discernible "bite" he'd have gone down like a sack of spuds and let VAR reduce Germany to 10 men. 🙂

The "bite" is an interesting VAR issue, too. Serious misconduct can be punished even if there was a restart. And it would be a missed incident, so it isn't C&O error standard. The VAR obviously didn't feel there was enough in the video to be definitive and give the send off.

So....

4 cautions in that melee at the end.
Were they right? Were they the right colours?!

I thought Conor Roberts was lucky to avoid a card. And I felt it could easily have been a red.

Not sure there was any VC
Not sure the Turks fancied taking Ben Davies on :punch:

I think Turkey's sole objective at this Euros is to be argumentative

Ended up watching most of the 2nd half with the sound off. At least when Gary Neville is commentating on Man Utd he can remain objective and professional, unfortunately the same cannot be said for Robbie Savage!

Maybe just me but does anyone else sense that the referees are getting in the way of play more than usual, particularly around the edge of the penalty areas?

I though the referee focussed on controlling the situation rather than the almost impossible task of getting all the correct sanctions.

The Welsh deserved their win (though it could/should have been by more).

It wasn't nice seeing the melee at the end caused by (can't remember his name) the Wales defender going down like a pole-axed bull in his penalty area clutching his face when nobody even touched him. No wonder the Turk was angry about it. The defender even sprawled out prone as if he'd been knocked out to begin with.

No Taff. Leave that rubbish to the Latins and South Americans please.

Well there's a rarity, Danish player yellow carded for "simulation" aka a blatant dive! Well done ref! 👍

I mean, really, if you're going to dive (especially with VAR!) you've got to do much better than that! It was such a poorly executed dive that I was thinking he must have just slipped!

Missed a stonewall YC in the first half for the Danish captain. Not quite sure how he wasn't booked.

Kuipers for the final, rolls royce of a ref

Kuipers is absolutely one of the top "all-around" referees for me. He may not be the strongest referee at any one particular area (but for me, he has the best whistle in the game - clearly knows how to alter how he uses the whistle to communicate on the field), but if you look at the whole picture - whistling, foul recognition, relationships with players, etc. - he's on the short list.

I think the short list is pretty short tbh!

Kuipers, Byrch, orsato and cakir are the runners for me. Lahoz not quite at their level and probably a tournamentor two too early for a few others.

Holland game. VAR pen. But clearly a dive before it. Can VAR take it back for that?
