The Referee - Mark Van Bommel – Last Game & Last Red Card
When players or managers go out its allways great when they go out in a way that sums up their career. Sir Alex Ferguson retires with a title, and Mark Van Bommel retires with a red card in his last game for vs Twente Actually this maybe a bit of a bad rap as a bit of research shows only 8 Red Cards for him, however 115 cautions shows more of a story. These are only from a quick google so maybe a bit more in reality. The Referee - Eating the Frog
English: A green frog on a palm frond. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) In every day life either at home or at work there is a horrible task that we have to do that we keep putting off. For me at the momment that is sorting out how we will cross charge an invoice as part of an internal work project. However I knew I had to deal with it and so I decided to eat the frog. Eating a Frog is taken from a quote by Mark Twain, “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” While it sounds a bit over the top as a quote I like it. Lets be honest we put the rubbish job off because there is something more exciting or fun to do, so if we do the worst thing your going to have to do all day first, then...
The Referee - Mark Halsey Retires
Mark Halsey (Photo credit: Wikipedia) This week Mark Halsey announced that he is retiring from Refereeing at the top-level. He deserves a lot of credit and respect for overcoming what he has to return back to the top flight. I hope that unlike Graham Poll and Jeff Winter he is planning to do something positive and still be involved. Unfortunately though according to the Daily Mail he only told the FA 24 hours before it was announced he was going to be a pundit on BT Sports new channel. He also told the FA he wouldn’t have a book coming out but this is being advertised on Amazon already. I hope this is just media digging dirt and he isn’t walking away. Apparently this video has been around for a few months but Ive only just come across it. Its from the Bad Lip Reading series, and after politicians, movies and songs, its not the turn of the NFL. I couldnt stop laughing when I saw this today at work, I dont know why it seemed to be the peanut one that pushed me over the edge. The post Bad Lip Reading – NFL appeared first on The Referee. When I first started work, one of the guys I used to work with was an ex steel fabricator. He always used to drill in to everyone Check Twice Cut Once. This was something that he pointed out that when your making things from scratch you need to check everything twice as otherwise if your wrong, your wasting resource and starting again. Which is a bit of tangent to show this clip from the weekend of Mark Clattenburg realising he has forgotten his cards. To be honest I’ve never done this and I don’t think in 20 years I have been involved in a game where the Referee has. However I can understand why it may have happened as some people will swap kits at half time for comfort. Although he should still have checked he had everything...
FIFA have confirmed that this years confederations cup will use goal line technology provided by GoalControl-4D. This video shows how the technology will work. To be honest, not inspired at all. The examples shown in the clip dont need technology, what it should show is the ability to report on those really tight decisions.
