Your England line up

I think Hendo will go.
And Woy won't take 4 specialist full backs, none of whom are really comfortable at CB or on the wing, when he has Milner (and Sterling - OMG Brendan what were you thinking?) in the squad.
With Rooney effectively a midfielder (which is just so wrong) I agree Rashford flies as 4th striker (friendly form withstanding).
Will Bertand even fly - I'm not so sure - let alone start.

Does Woy fancy Lallana enough to start him?
Surely Milner starts, no, for Woy, no?

Hart

Clyne Cahill Smalling Rose / Bertrand

Dier Drinkwater

Lallana Alli Rooney

Kane

Gone for Rose or Bertrand as I think it depends on the opponents, Bertrand is a much better defender but Rose better going forward.

If I thought Wilshere was really, genuinely 100% fit I would have him ahead of Drinkwater, but I just don't see how someone who only started playing in mid April can really be fully match fit. We've been caught out before gambling on players who aren't fully fit and it really doesn't work.

Rooney could also play in place of Drinkwater, but I think he is better out wide than the other options we have, even though he isn't a winger. Sterling has had a poor season, Townsend isn't good enough in my opinion, and I only have Lallana in there as the best of an average bunch.

Harsh not having Vardy in there I know, but the key thing for me is the Alli and Kane link up. They know each others' games back to front and I'm sure they will create goals for each other. Vardy can come on as an impact player when the opposition are tired, as can Sturridge (assuming he hasn't tripped over the hotel room TV remote control and injured himself)

Drinkwater is embarrassingly slow. I wouldn't even have him on the plane......

Don't need to be fast in that position. Can he protect the back 4, yes. Can he pass the ball forward rather than sideways, yes. He isn't as technically gifted as Wilshere, but those two together are the only ones who can pick out a forward pass.

Noble would be better in Drinkwaters position ...

I've never really thought much of Roy Hodgson as a manager, but with most of your selections he looks like an absolute genius.

The team I'd start on Saturday night would be

Hart

Walker Smalling Cahill Rose

Dier Wilshire

Alli Rooney Vardy

Kane

You would play Vardy and alli out of position to accommodate Rooney? Will be a short and boring tournament for England

It gets much easier to pick a strong and balanced team if you just drop Rooney completely...

Flying in the face of public opinion here, I'll go on record as saying that I think Rooney will silence his critics and have his best ever tournament over the next few weeks. Wait and see. :)

Just saying like...... ;)

My team for Saturday would be:

Hart
Walker Smalling Cahill Rose
Dier Wilshire
Alli Rooney Sterling
Kane

A front five with pace, power and strength. I know - No Vardy, but he doesn't quite work in this system.
Bring Vardy on for last 30 mins to replace Rooney - his pace will scare defenders stupid. then go to a diamond with Alli at the front (possibly take Sterling off as well).

Later in the tournament, when Rooney is suspended (has to happen :wall: :redcard:) then go with diamond and Kane & Vardy up front. so
Hart
Walker Smalling Cahill Rose
Dier
Milner Wilshire
Alli
Kane Vardy
