The Ref Stop

When does an injured player have to leave the field?

Had a friend being observed on supply league.
3 players from the same team all went down in separate incidents and were all treated.

He made them all go off.

Observer gave him a major development.

Ref got mugged off by the local observer coordinator saying the observer was correct so he didn't appeal it.

The Referee was correct to have them
all leave the FoP since the only occasions they can remain on the field as per Law is when:

a goalkeeper is injured
a goalkeeper and an outfield player have collided and need attention
players from the same team have collided and need attention
a severe injury has occurred
a player is injured as the result of a physical offence for which the opponent is cautioned or sent off (e.g. reckless or serious foul challenge), if the assessment/treatment is completed quickly
a penalty kick has been awarded and the injured player will be the kicker

Whether many Referees would have done the same as this Referee under Law or not is open to debate.

However, major development for a Referee being correct ☑ is unjustified & in any event, even if he wasn't, should only be included if there was an impact on the game eg a goal was scored by the team with players off the field of play.

This isn’t supported by the LotG though. “The physio did not enter” is not in the exceptions about serious injuries. There is nothing in the laws about minor injuries. Yes, it’s common sense. But the law says you stop play (only) for a serious injury. If it’s not serious you wait until the next stoppage. According to the book, if you stop play for the injury, the player “must” leave (nothing about a physio).

Anyway, I’m kicking myself a bit because this “guidance” has been probably last in a PPT 3 years ago, I forgot. Waiting for the report. I did also have a (frankly exhilarating Mike Dean) advantage goal in the same match. Dream stuff with an observer, so fingers crossed for the report🙃
Being observed/assessed for a mark or rating is not too different to doing a referee 'lotg' quiz. There are instances where you've got to think if what you 'know' is the right action/answer is the same as what the observer/quizer thinks? And sometimes you know they are not the same. You have to decide which way you want to go. It's unfortunate but it's reality of life.

Exactly that. One question that I can remember from back when I was going through promotion related to a throw-in being taken from 10m further back that it should have been. The options were have it retaken, award to opposition, or just let it go as no advantage was gained by taking it from 10m closer to their own goal. In reality most referees would let it go and therefore use the last option, but the correct in law answer, and therefore what should also be chosen on a LoTG exam, is award it to the opposition.
