MO in action.

Didn't sanction an obvious SPA on 42.
Just YC'd Calvert-L on 52 for a late tackle when Richy actually trod on CL's ankle.

MO is the don IMHO, but that's a pair of cards I would question.

Simon Bennet AR2 is just awesome IMHO every time.

Great double yellow on 85.

Amazing how much respect the players have for MO. VAR does help I think. Gone are any afters off the ball.

Right.
Coleman tried the quick free kick.
Villa player delayed the restart of play then when the ball played at him, he hit the deck.

LOTG state a player can get a caution for unsporting behavior, one being..... 'attempts to deceive the referee, e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)'

He was clearly feigning an injury.

Delaying the restart of play = a caution.
Unsporting behaviour = a caution.

Shame the refs don't act on this. Would immediately stop players faking nonsense and cheating.

All hell will break loose when you caution for feigning injury and also caution for the player that kicked them. You lose all credibility.

Sin bin all the players that kick up a fuss.
VAR taking the rules to extreme levels, we can make grass roots more entertaining by following the lotg ;)

Tbh, i dono why coleman got a caution? Not his fault the Villa player delayed play. Seemed the ref wanted to make it look 'fair' .

Im wondering why Michael Oliver (a top referee) failed to implement the new laws like a few PL refs seem to be doing.

Game stopped first half Villa in possession, referee dropped the ball to Everton who kick it back to the Villa keeper.

Second half substitute for Villa, i think Trezuget goes off just after the Coleman free kick incident, trots all the way from left wing accros the pitch to the dug outs.

From other thread on same game.

You don't know why Coleman got a caution?
Really?

If Coleman got a caution for playing the ball, more reason to give the villa player a caution for unsporting behaviour.

If the ref is going to be petty on one thing, he should follow suit and send the drama queen cheat off with two cautions.

He didn't play the ball he recklessly struck his opponent with it.
Despite what the Villa player was doing SC shouldn't have reacted how he did.
You are saying he feigned the injury but the bloke had just had a ball absolutely smacked at him from a yard away. Given the force used I am guessing that would have actually hurt. Also there is no sanction for feigning injury - there is for simulation but there was no deception taking place given that he had actually been whacked with the ball.
Yellow card a piece was sufficient.

The first example of USB in the LOTG is "attempts to deceive the referee e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)".
They are two different things, and both listed as mandatory i.e. "must be" cautions.
Being hit by a ball at close range, this player is probably not feigning injury, but anything that was, has to be sanctioned.

Good point, my bad. All the same I don't think anyone could say that he was feigning injury having the ball blasted at him.

I've not seen the incident, but if the ball was kicked with as much force as you say wouldn't there be grounds for a red card for violent conduct?

Potentially. I did wonder at the time but I think it was more reckless than excessive force... Without opening the "any force is excessive" debate

So when Coleman kicks the ball, is the bell in play ?

If it is I’m not sure what the offence is, unless kicking the ball at someone is now a yellow card.
