Without fail, after every game that I referee I email the club sec to politely requesting a link to the Veo footage from any game that is recorded. I ref step 5&6, pretty much every game now will have 2 Veos on site.
Despite this, I have only received footage for 1 out of 7 games this season. Reviewing key incidents, positioning and movement is a really important process especially for those of us without a coach and the few games being observed.

Does the group feel like it should be mandatory to provide a copy of footage to referees when asked? Do others suffer from this as well? Everyone wants the standards of officiating to improve after all!

The only arguments that I can think against doing this is the fear that it will be passed on to opposition teams the following week, and that the club has invested their own money in the equipment and subscription. Perhaps the referee should have to pay for this footage?

I struggle with the same to be honest. I have taken recently to asking when responding to the match confirmation if they will be filming it and if so, if I could have a copy of the footage, then I will ask again the day following the game. It has increased my success rate, but I still don't manage to obtain it easily.

I usually ask the manager and would say it's rare I dont get a copy of the footage.

If the game has gone well then they're usually happy to chat and send a link. If the game hasn't gone well then I frame the request as wanting to take another look to see the contentious decisions and what I could/should have done differently to arrive at the correct outcome.

I really think that if the subscription is the clubs there is a data protection angle on this. You could make a SAR request to the club....

Let me know how it goes 🫣🤪

There is one club that has a video of me trying and failing to jump over a ball, subsequently landing on the ball, and falling on my backside...

They can keep that hidden... and unwatched.
A womens club has a video of me catching a full pelt clearance in the place no man wants the ball to hit them. Made it very clear if that made it onto social media there would be consequences the next time I refereed them.

Not exactly the same topic but it is VEO related. Someone flagged up this Facebook post recently. I was on the line on the opposite side to the VEO camera. Basically, the shot hit the post, the ball bounced forward away from the goal line and was then cleared by a defender (it did not cross the goal line, I'm certain of that, although I have no evidence). Despite the coach being stood approximately 80 yards away, he apparently could see that the ball had crossed the line!! You'll note that he states "video attached 🙈🙈🙈" as if it's going to show some credible evidence to back up his very bold claim!!

Send the video to the CFA, they maybe interested in social media content which alledges dissent to an official

If it had been posted "publicly" such as on a club page, I may well have considered it but as it was on his own personal page, I'll not bother.

Regardless if its an own page or club page.
Once its out there, it can be downloaded, shared etc. Should never be posting that type of video to cause offence to an official anywhere as itll bring questions to your next game and so on.

I hate that type of goal. Had 2 of those incidents this season.

I recall doing a 12U AYSO AR for local playoffs (translation--not very high level). Parents at midfield berserk over ball that "scored" when it came down from the crossbar. Of course, at this level, there is no line across the goal mouth. Fortunately, I was looking straight down the goal line and could easily tell the whole ball had not crossed. Not even a particularly hard call from that position. At half player coming off complains "it broke the plane, couldn't you see that." (That would be the rule in American pointy ball . . . not sure he even understood the explanation on why it was not a goal.) After the game, a parent deliberately jogs across the field to snipe at the referee team as he ran by "How can you sleep at night?" Sigh. But I don't think we'll be getting GLT at grass roots any time soon . . .

Reminds me of a goal scored in one of my son's games. No AR, the ball bounces out off the back post (old style goals with 4 posts) from a long shot. Night game with lighting not great. There was no way the poor young ref, who would have been otherwise in a good position for general play, to tell if it bounced off the front or back post. He could have gone by player reactions but they are not always right either. He decided to play on. Opposition parent on sideline next to me with a good views gave a me raw smile and said we got away with that one :)

I had the re worse of that in a game I played. It was with a two referee system—both of who. Were lazy at midfield. It was a goal frame with a second crossbar supporting the frame a few feet behind. Shot went over the top and hit the back bar, coming back into play. Opposing attacker jokingly heads it into the goal. As both teams get ready for a goal kick, one of the referees signals it is a goal. Yup, only people on the pitch who didn’t know it wasn’t a goal was our two refs.
