Overkill in my opinion. Having watched lots of PL & EFL this season on Sky, between the Referee & active AR, 99% of contested goal kicks/corner kicks have been accurate. Having more incidents referred to VAR is only going to spoil/slow the game.

Absolutely, that’s the argument I’ve used before. Someone who’s second caution is wrong stays on but someone who’s first caution is wrong goes off. Doesn’t feel right.

I’m kind of OK with the corner thing. They only check whether the corner was wrong after a goal is scored, so not as it they are having to delay to check every corner / GK decision. Plus I would hope they are proactive so will already know as soon as a goal is scored if there is a problem.

I don't think it is a problem, I think what you mean to say is it doesn't completely solve the problem. I think it gets close. The Aim is to undo the impact of the error if it is a mistake. It is only the second caution that has the send off impact.
  • If the first caution was an error and the second was correct, for me the player still deserves (sort of) to be sent off committing a cautionable offence knowing he is on a caution already.
  • If the first caution was correct and the second wasn't, the player doesn't deserve to be sent off as he was careful enough not to commit a cautionable offence.

I am against VAR for corners. I don't think corners are the restarts resulting the highest number of goals. FKs around the penalty area are (though subjective decision). And nowadays TI up to 20m from the corner flags. Where do we stop? We will get to a VAR for everything soon. The impact is not worth the one or two goals scored a season from the erroneous corner.

How long between the corner and the goal before reversing a decision is allowed? Does a clearance reset this? What if the clearance is only to the edge of the area?

That’s what needs to be defined. The devil will be in the detail and I don’t have a huge amount of confidence that IFAB will get it right.

Totally agree on cautions. Hard to imagine it doesn’t lead further to all cautions being reviewed.

What you wrote about CKs isn’t correct. The article explains that the fundamental concept that you can’t change a decision after a restart is not being changed—the VAR will review all CKs. I think the delays that causes will be minimal, if at all—most CK/GK decisions are obvious. And of those that aren’t obvious, most can be seen very quickly on a replay. I think it will be very unusual that a check continues past the time it takes a team to get ready to take the CK. (The article isn’t clear if awarded GKs are being reviewed. If not, that is kinda weird to only do in one direction.)

And the teams are usually going to know if a corner is incorrect so the attacking team won't try and score until the 'next phase' or they'll just knock it out and concede a throw-in right in the corner.

This is so obviously flawed but when it happens they'll double down and check all corners instead of abandoning it.

Very hard to review cautions I think, and it could lead to more problems down the line.

As we have all said on this forum before, cautions can be either not given to help the flow of a game, given to calm it down, players given the benefit of the doubt early on, SPA is rarely black and white (even harder to judge than DOGSO), dissent can depend on the receiver, delaying the restart can be subjective; the list goes on!

Overall there is a lot more of a grey area, and ‘game state’ can come in to thinking a lot more than a black and white red card decision is what I am saying - so good luck with that!!

That wasn't the original proposal as there was discussion at the time that it would allow decisions to be changed after play had restarted, must have changed since then.
