As does participation in CPD offered. Can take the horse to water but there are so many refs who just aren't interested in any sort of development or continual training!
Should be mandatory recertifications and/or CPD for law changes as part of the registration process.
I know this is fraught with difficulties and probably negatively affect numbers but it's madness that there are referees out there who qualified many moons and iterations of law ago who have never had any retraining.or professional development. Yes there is a place for these referees but some minimum engagement with training is essential.

100% agree, I have been banging on about this for ages. It is ludicrous that someone can qualify and then just register every year without any kind of check that they know the laws that they are being paid to enforce.

Also agree with this! I've always found it strange tbh that you can't drop below 5. I see more "5"s in my area not half as competent as 6s and 7s who just aren't interested in meeting the minimum game threshold or have the time. Nevertheless, whatever level down the bottom, a yearly compulsory course to discuss law changes and targets should be a minimum. You have to sit through online courses for safeguarding etc, so what is another 2 hours for personal development.

Hi Jayden. I am also a 15-year-old referee, and I completely understand your feelings. I recently did a game where the manager was relentlessly in my ear for the full 70 minutes (U13), shouting and swearing at me when a decision didn't go his way. The best thing to do is to keep going and not dwell on it. I just keep in the back of my head that I am probably the only person getting paid to be here so take a break if you need to and move on to the next game. Hope this helps mate.

Cheers mate, this actually helped especially having someone my own age to relate to! Since the game I dropped back to div 1 U12’s and the game went brilliantly!

The U15 team is now under investigation by the club but as it is a team the current chairman was involved in there is a lot of politics around it.

Firstly, huge respect to @Jayden and @Jaylen for not only getting out there and reffing these games but also for the level of care and pride you clearly both take in it. There is absolutely no way I'd have been able to deal with the incidents you've described at 15 years old. That being said, I'm sorry that you had to deal with them. I will never understand how or why a youth football match can turn grown adults into such idiots.

We all have games we wish we could re ref or handle things differently.
Reading what you wrote, I think you did well and are being very hard on yourself.

I am always shocked at how adults in football thing they can speak to children like that. It’s disgusting and the AR needs to remember he is there to assist you.

Don’t let any of this put you off. Keep going. Every match is a learning experience. You will have bad days, but you will have more good days.
