What is your go to tactic / strategy to manage a game or a particular team that you know are going to be difficult to manage from the off?

Cards at the ready and any dissent an early sin bin usually does the trick.

I always try not to prejudge it.

I've been given the nightmare game, you know the ones the ref sec rings you before to say why he's a putting you on it and it's gone swimmingly so always no prejudgment.

Just approach it like a normal game but know in the back of your mind that you may need to raise your profile in the game and do it when it's needed.

I think sometimes.we prejudge these games, go in with a mindset of killing it and then we become the ones who contribute into turning it into a storm.

This, as difficult as it is to not prejudge it, you've just got to treat it like any other game

Agree. Don't pre-judge, but pre-pare so that you can deal with things swiftly and confidently if the need arises.

Also raising the level of awareness, more so than usual, right from the outset helps.

I had a game (U16) where both team coaches said "this will be a hard game for you ref, nip any issues as soon as you can"
Cue 78 mins of the easiest game ever. Followed by 2 mins of a penalty, yellow card, goal, a fight and 2 reds
