So today I did 3 matches during finals day.
1 centre and 2 on the line.

First match was on the line and I was parents side.
Ref gave a clear penalty and I can’t name the side, but it is the u18 side of the same club that I had a parent threaten me for on the u13.

Anyway. Centre gave a clear penalty against away Team and the language coming from the parents was truly shocking. Penalty was scored.
Right toward the end of the match, away team equalised. Huge eruption from parents who entered the pitch to celebrate.
Deep in stoppage time away team conceded and lost the final. Next thing I see is 3 away team players chasing down an opposition player. I’m noting the numbers. I go together ref, and ask the away team keeper to stay away. His reply was foul and abusive language directed at me.
I look over and I see an away team player push a player and this players falls and knocks over his own mother who was trying to stop it. Said player proceeds to kick the player hard while on the ground.
All the time parents aggressively shouting horrific abuse and threatening all the match officials. All away team players.
league officials are now at the pitch.
As things settle, we call over 3 away team players who claim racial abuse kicked it off. Ref issues 3 red cards post match.
Goalkeeper wants again foul and abusive language at me. (Apparently they claimed offside for winning goal, but it’s strange as I was the AR on the other side and had nothing to do with it)
All 3 players were told to shake our hands, and the keeper when it came to me, put out his hand and when I extended mine, withdrew it and tried to slap me. Then squared up to me.

I am about to file the report as AR, but frankly, I will not be reffing in this league again as Coaches, parents, and players behaviour is just shocking.

That was my first match…..2nd and 3rd matches were excellent with no incidents.

I am not paid enough to be assaulted.

I understand that this team is disbanding as they aged out, so punishment is pretty much irrelevant.

I would be deleting the team and league names from this post. There will presumably be disciplinary charges coming and the very existence of this post would be guaranteed to get them off if it was discovered, as well as potentially land you in hot water with your CFA.

Done that. Please check if I have missed anything.

The way I feel at the moment, I wouldn’t care if I got banned from reffing as this isn’t what I signed up for.

Sorry about your awful experience. How did you feel about doing the following matches after? That would have unsettled me.

Not gonna lie…..my mind drifted to it a lot. I was in the middle the next match and thankfully having to focus kept me from thinking too much about it.

What’s worse, is I haven’t heard a word from league ref secretary even though I’ve messaged him and I know he has read it.

We’ve all filed reports, and I’ve now heard that 1 of the kids ended up in hospital because of these thugs and their parents.

Again…..this isn’t what I signed up for and I’m thinking of packing it in.

I do girls football on a Saturday. Open age sounds like an idea and then I can also do promotion.

I said this the other week to someone else on here (may have been @Gabriel )

But completely agree with @ChasObserverRefDeveloper . Get out of youth football and I can almost guarantee things will change. For every amazing person that helps run youth football, there's normally 10 whoppers who ruin it. It's really not worth it imo.

I'd definitely agree that avoiding youth football will make life easier. A Saturday League like the AFC or SAL, and women's games on Sunday afternoons should provide you with much less grief. The parents are the biggest issue and you won't get them at adult games.

Just as an update. Club have been charged with multiple offences and players charged with violent conduct and an additional charge of violent conduct of attempting to assault a match official.
