Wasn't too sure how to word it but a bit of backstory. Local step 5/6 league had all of its final games played yesterday bar 1, which happened to be my fixture. Huge step 5 playoff decisive game that was postponed due to the away team not being able to field a side, and the home team needed goal difference to make the playoffs. Same thing happened on Saturday involving two different teams and the league awarded the team 2 points (guaranteeing them a playoffs spot).

As it happens the team in 5th drew yesterday, meaning the awarded 2 points would've cemented that last spot. The league has decided that the game must be replayed tomorrow, in what has angered a lot of people involved. God I hope this all makes sense.

I just think it isn't fair on anyone due to the inconsistent approach, but looking forward to the game.

Yes sorry, were in the same division and made yesterday a bit more exciting around the league due to possible finishes.

They're replaying a dead rubber at Step 3, was abandoned yesterday due to a medical incident with 13 minutes left.
Was 3-0 at the time

I'm struggling to see how / why they awarded 2 points given that isn't a number of points that you can possibly get in a game.

Rules don't allow goals to be awarded, so what usually happens is it goes down as a 0-0 score but with 3 points awarded. So if the team from yesterday need goal difference to reach the play offs I can fully understand why they have ordered it to be replayed. Or are you saying that being awarded the two points would be good enough for playoffs regardless of goal difference?

As an aside, it must be extremely rare to get games not played at step 5/6 due to a team not being able not being able to field enough players. That's grass roots stuff, and I don't recall it ever happening when I was refereeing at L4/3.

I don't think it's necessarily that rare, as when teams are paying players and then the money dries up, players make themselves unavailable.

So if the team that were previously in 5th (A) had won, my game team B would have needed a cricket score for them to have any hope. But because the Team A drew on Monday 2 awarded points would have put team B in the playoffs.

And in a turn of events the away side still cannot put a team together so the league has awarded the game and put Team B in the playoffs.
