Long time lurker, first time poster. For those of you, like myself, of a certain vintage you will remember the unique notebook used by Steve Lodge (FIFA and PL ref in the 90s for our younger members) and a handful of other refs but was never widespread. The notebook had the cards as pages in the notebook and depending which way it was opened/closed it would display each card.

I have never been able to find a supplier of the original style book, I know that A&H did produce a much inferior version made of card at one point.

I have recently discovered one such book on eBay, however the price I feel is unrealistic.
I am interested in making an offer but don’t want to low ball offer in case it ruins any chance of success.

I was hoping there would be some members of this board who were aware of any of these such books being available or what their value would actually be. Is the high price due to this being a memorabilia item rather than just a standard ref book? Any advise would be greatly received.

I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but current Premier League referee Simon Hooper uses some kind of notebook style card; whatever he has certainly folds in half after he's written in it. I'm struggling to find a clear picture of it, this is the best I can find. Picture . They're available somewhere, unless Simon gets them custom made!

I started refereeing in 1997 and had a very similar notebook to this (mine didn’t have the Swedish logo on the front). I got mine from a ref I knew well who was retiring who had used it for a few years before. No idea where it came from and I have never seen anything like it for sale since.

To be honest I’ve got no idea of any value, I’m not sure there is a huge collectable market in referee stuff, especially at that price, if there is I wish I’d kept mine 😂.

Like all these things it’s worth whatever you are willing to pay/seller is willing to sell for.

Would I pay £100 for a notebook? I’d like to think not, but I did pay £70 for valkeen when they first came out 😂

Simon Hooper uses a wallet that is made of yellow plastic instead of the usual black. They were fairly common about 20 years ago and were sold by A&H. I don’t think the new A&H sell them. Simon Hooper must have bought a few of them before the company closed!
