Promotions - Season Ending 2024

Level 3 Referee
Not in with a shout myself this season and I should be safe.

Starting this thread so we can announce and congratulate members of this forum on their promotions.

Let's hear it if you've been promoted to level 6, or 5 recently.

If you are waiting for news on L4 or from 4-3 etc. wish you the very best of luck.

Anyone have any idea when we can expect promotion / assessment day invite emails to go out?

The assessment day dates are only a couple of weeks away now.

Might not be for this thread.. but, can you give an overview of what life is like as a level 3? How much changes with commitment etc..?

When you say how much it changes, it depends what you're comparing it against. If L6, I'd say a lot. If L4, I'd say similar, but further travel.

We had this discussion the other day on another thread, but the rule of thumb I was told to run by was be available most weekends (doesn't need to be all) and at least 2 midweeks a month. But I don't think this is set in stone anywhere.

Then you have training seminars etc

Not really for this thread but I will indulge 😊

The main difference is the expectations placed upon you. You are expected to be available as often as you can be. Poor availability can be a reason for reclassification. Your admin is expected to be spot on. Closed dates etc. if you're date is open and you get a game you need to have a very good reason to give it back. Poor admin can result in not being promoted, if in position, and potentially, reclassification.
Expect to travel much further. I have been known to be sent 3-4+ hours on a midweek to run a national league line.
Have to be at games 90 mins before. Generally not leave until an hour after full time. The expectations of participants goes up as well, they expect a high level of match officials in all areas both on/off field.
As @Runner Ref says the difference between L4 and L3 is mostly the distances travelled. But from a grassroots referee perspective the differences are massive. You wont be appointed to any local games... For example I can't referee Truro City (I have Truro in my address... I actually live closer to Newquay) and I know none of the Plymouth L3s are allowed to ref Plymouth Parkway as an example.

I'd be worried if the officials left an hour after kick off..... ;)

I can totally understand that, although not for status, I missed my Y1-2 purely because I had to stop for a while to prioritise school exams! Then the ECB went and promoted me as a fast-tracked cricket umpire when I told them I didn't want the promotion this year. I couldn't make these scenarios up! It's absolutely typical! Going to attempt my 7-6 next season.
 
I came close to promotion in my first season as a L4 but regressed a bit this year.
Some recurring mistakes. I turn 50 this year, like a drink and generally not as sharp as I used to be, physically or mentally.
Nowhere near reclassification or out like that, but not really thrilled with mediocrity (=p1ss poor in my book).
In the top 15% for AR marks (got a play-off appt.) and on about the 25th percentile for Club Marks, so bit of a mixed bag really
I might hit the gym hard in the summer.... we'll see (The training plan is in the draft phase, but got the Euros to compete with and a week in Majorca!)
For now, I've closed remaining dates (still Step 6 Cup Games going on etc etc) Got me feet well and truly up

Dont' blame you, it's that time of the year! Honestly, when I qualified, a mate of mine told me reffing takes it out of you physically (and mentally), even in youth games. I thought he was joking, very quickly found he wasn't 😆. Month off, then come June it's training time.

Aye wait til you're old and grey though
Age/Life experience is my greatest asset, but also the existential limiting factor
