Player pacing out the wall - Dissent or Delaying?

I mean the player gets there in like 6 and a half steps. I did a FA training day and they were saying to get the wall the required distance it needs about 11-12 standard steps. I tried that for a few games, but the dissent wasn't worth it.

Genuinely for the player though, if he fancies a shot from there, the wall looks extremely close.

Still dissent though, especially when he is just standing in front of the taker not moving.

It all depends on your steps. Since players count, if you’re going to step, I think best practice is to practice so you know when your step is a yard. (I got advice somewhere along the line to not actually pace it out but to learn where 10 is and just go there. It has worked for me in the games I do.)

I think I've mentioned it on here before but the 11 steps used to be a 'party trick' with an old referee around my area - he was a character but had a tendency to wind players up.

I remember in a Premier League game where a player was moaning about the wall distance. The referee then paced out 10 yards, took him exactly to the wall, paced 10 yards back and shoved a yellow card up the complainant's nose. Pretty sure it was Phil Dowd, or could have been Jeff Winter.
