Player abusive to club linesman. What actions can you take?

Back in South Yorkshire we didn't have CARs and it's just so much better. Now I'm a southern softy I'm using them for the first time and it would be great if I had the option to not use them and just do it all myself but alas I don't.

You have to take each case on its own. I had a situation once where a fight broke out in the spectator area, and 3 players jumped off the FOP but were peace making.
No cautions given, despite mandatory leave FOP. In my report I literally wrote cautions weren't appropriate as the actions of the players diffused the situation. I got commendation off both clubs and the FA at the hearing for how I handled the situation.
In the video Kes posted I can't see how anything other than a send off is the right action, the player becomes the aggressor.
OK he resolves a situation, but he does so in an aggressive brutal manner that wasnt needed.

Exactly that. Referees on a crusade to do what they think is the right thing and bucking the trend of the norm rarely fare well. There was a L3 in the South East who decided he was cracking down on bad language. In effect he put his head above the parapet and it was duly shot off, he was demoted at the end of the season and then demoted from L4 the following season (or perhaps the season after).

If that video was shown in an FA L3 seminar the expectation would 100% be that it should be a red card.

Surely not all Refs at Supply/Contrib Level are hell bent on promotion
Surely some will act according to how they see fit when something really unusual happens
Because they value 'the game' more then they do promotion/demotion

May be not hell bent on promotion, but they will certainly be hell bent on not getting demoted. If you get a really bad mark as a L4 you have very little chance to recover it, more chance as an L3 as you get more observations but still very damaging.

Any ref at level 4 must have some interest in promotion. Else they wouldnt go through the bother of getting there. And after getting there, they will want to stay there.
Ultimately, there needs to be a guide and an expectation set by the regulator, in this case the FA to reduce the wild inconsistencies each of us reffing to our own tune would bring.
Yes, there can be common sense, yes you can manage sometimes but sometimes you just go to suck your gums and say the expectation here is I do x y and z
 
Hi, i have been a youth referee for around 2 years, doing my level 7 this week. Genrally abuse to a linesman i give a yellow but on 1 occasion i did give a straight red. Under 12s game - A dad was unhappy with the linesman decision so walked halfway around the pitch to square up into the linesmans face wanting to fight. Crazy that people get so wound up about nothing.

You didn't show the parent a red card did you?
 
Yes i sent him off but as kids football i told him he had to stand away from the field, not right on the touch line with everybody else but 10/15 meters away at tops. Should i have allowed him to stay with everybody else?

No. But unless he is a player or a team official you shouldn't show them a red card.

If you wish to have a spectator removed, do not do it yourself - tell the home team manager/ coach/ Respect steward who needs to go, and to where.
Restart only when the nuisance has been removed.
