Indeed, what is the difference between block and obstruct? In today's U16 match there was an attacking team member right in front of the goalkeeper, but the GK was able to get around him when the ball was kicked so I didn't call for anything. I guess that is blocking rather than obstructing.

'Impede' is the word the laws use in the context of this thread*. Below is the offence. It makes no difference is one player is a goalkeeper or not. If no contact is made it's IFK. It's DFK with contact.

Not with the arms seems fairly obvious, but not with the body? How else could a player hold another player off? Is this not how defenders shield a ball going out of play?

Absolutely correct. The offense used to be called obstruction.

If he moves into the path of the GK and forces the GK to change path, that is obstructio.

The same rules apply in Quidditch, I imagine...

I don't think I've ever seen somebody shield the ball without using their torso. I mean, it's impossible. What a silly rule.
