Christ, that is egregious. shocking that the AR didn't spot that. No need to check the offside line when there's a throw, especially when it's gone backwards.

Looks bad, but that's not the point of release. Unlikely, but if the right foot has moved and been placed on the ground in the correct position by the point the ball is released, the throw in the picture could still become legal...

Having watched the handball fiasco of the past several years, I really hope that IFAB doesn’t try to “fix“ TIs.

Given the number of times I hear "foul throw ref!" following perfectly good throw-ins, I'd like it made explicit either one way or the other. I don't mind which.

Since there's really no advantage to be had in being able to throw directly downwards I don't see why that's not explicitly allowed.
