For chrimbo the wife bought me a garmin vivo smart. It's a watch, step counter plus has some neat Bluetooth features which link to your phone.
It's counts steps (obviously), gives you daily goals to meet in terms of steps, guesses at calories burned, vibrates a warning if you have been sat down too long and wants you to walk around for it before it vibrates again to let you know your okay to sit again.
The smart phone stuff, you get alerts from your phone which you can set. Who is ringing you, Facebook, texts, emails all display alert and let you read a bit of what is sent(depends on how long the message is!) which is really handy if you are in a meeting or don't know whether you want to get your phone out of your pocket! Even monitors your sleep movement.
Syncs with the garmin connect app for easy review of your walking around and can connect to a hr monitor - not bothered with this as I have a garmin forerunner 220 GPS for running.
