Absolutely brilliant spot!!

Hart kicks the ball against himself from a free kick... Next touch Austin has slotted it in... Mike correctly takes it back for a tetake and qpr go mental!!

Would hate to be in his shoes right now but I'm sure the assessor will love it... Brilliant stuff

Turns out it should have been am indirect free kick to qpr... Thanks @Mike for putting me right. Time to retread the great book

Another edit. The ball didn't leave the penalty area and so should have been retaken (ball isn't active). Phew!! New it felt right... This is the last edit I promise :oops:

Correctly takes it back for a retake?

LOTG Pg 45:
'Free kick taken by the goalkeeper:
If, after the ball is in play, the goalkeeper touches the ball again (except with
his hands), before it has touched another player:
• an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team, to be taken from the
place where the infringement occurred (see Law 13 – Position of free kick)'

Knew it looked like a retake, just wasn't sure why, and then when Neville said it should be and IFK I should've known I was was right for sure :p ... I think I'll leave this thread alone now... Made a right mess of my OP...

Time to re-read my LOTG ahead of my 7-6 exam thursday
 
It did leave the 18 yard box by some distance so I'm not entirely sure why he ordered it retaken. I would be amazed if he saw the double touch.
 
I've not seen it but if the ball has left the penalty area between Hart's two touches then it would be an IDFK however from what I'm reading a retake is correct.
 
DID NOT leave the penalty area between the two touches. It's flicked his left foot and he's kicked it with his right. Retake is 100% correct and obvious, don't know what the debate is about? Commentators are right pissing me off atm!!

Left the box after the two touches. Assistant told him through mic.
 
Right now I've stopped watching Sky I've realised Mike Dean was spot on. As the keeper touched the ball twice, then it would be a free kick if the ball was in play. Sadly for QPR as it was a defending free kick and the ball has to leave the area to be in play it is therefore not in play when he touches the ball twice so he was correct to award the retake.
 
Dont understand why everyone is debating this one , its bread and butter LOTG

Here's a vine of the incident. Double touch is within the area. Ball ends up leaving the area after the second touch. Cannot play advantage on a restart when the ball isn't in play. Happens outside the area? Advantage, goal, have a nice day.

Stop play , IFK to opposition , you cannot kick the ball again until another player has touched it , there cannot be an advantage in this situation ?

As this was an infringement, arguably, the first line in Law 5 re: Advantage applies.
The referee may play advantage whenever an infringement or offence occurs.

A double touch suggests infringement...

Edit: No longer talking about the Joe Hart case as is, but what if it were outside the PA...

You cannot play advantage if the ball is not in play. Ball is not in play until it is "kicked directly out of penalty area".
