What I find interesting is most ex-pros I've heard says red, and the same ones said that Bruno Fernandes's challenge should have been yellow. The consensus from them seems to be that Martinez has "done him" out of frustration.
I agree with that view, I think he knew what he was doing, but I thought the same for Fernandes and that was overturned. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the outcome of that previous one was on VAR's mind, and as a result they stuck with referee's call.
Big difference as it been mentioned was Fernandes tackle was with the side of his foot and not the studs like the linesman believed to be the case hence it should of been overturned because whilst it was high it was not dangerous.
This one, studs were definitely used and was it just lucky more contact was not made? I can't understand how the VAR is not recommending a review here but I suspect lack of intensity and this nonsense refs call has played a role in the VAR not intervening.
