Cant believe Dalots challenge hasnt been given as a red. Completely endangers opponent. I’m a neutral watching this so i can say I cant believe what ive just seen, VAR has a lot of questions coming its way

Assume you mean the Dalot one?

It's ends up being a glancing blow to the knee with not a great amount of force which I think saves him. It's not a nice challenge, but think it just below SFP threshold.

ive edited it incase I confused people, his knee buckled though and could have easily been an awful injury on any other day so I think there was more than enough force to give it

I think you are over stating it somewhat. It's not a nice challenge I agree but I didn't see any buckling, Dakota foot didn't really press through into the knee, more caught the opponent high without any significant force. .
We can agree to disagree but I'm inclined to agree with the outcome reached on that one.

As Mike Dean said, you couldn't see this real time and could only see it on slow motion replays. I'm not sure how it be said the referee made a clear and obvious error when it takes a slow motion replay to see that error, even the VAR protocol says that the intensity of a challenge should be judged at full speed.

I predict this will be voted 3-2 in favour of a red card by the KMI panel, based on what the pundits said football expects a red card, but I suspect PGMO and the EPL will say a caution was correct.

Me thinks this is an example of a red in almost all parts of the world that isn’t in the PL. (and interesting for PL FIFA refs who would likely make a different call, if it was FIFA or UEFA competition.)

Well if we want consistency then I'll link to the mic'd up clip of Chelsea Spurs where a Tottenham player had a goal disallowed as there was a glancing contact on the knee which the on field ref was going to go red card for but the VAR told him to consider it reckless which was then backed up by Howard Webb who says yellow is right because there was no force in the knee just like it was in this case.

Im happy with no VAR involvement here even if the ref did not sanction anything, it's not quite at the threshold for SFP.

I’d expect this to be a red, IMO did endanger safety of an opponent.

He did make contact with the ball, so in full speed AT can’t see the contact, but VAR

Only just seen this, it’s nasty. Should be a red imo. For me it being glancing is irrelevant, it definitely endangers safety of the opponent. It’s out of control.

Having just watched it for the first time, after unfortunately reading the thread, I can see a point for red or yellow in real time. On replay, I think a strong yellow. At grassroots, I'd think I'd expect a red if I had a good view of it (I think the straight leg makes it look bad, even if the connection isn't excessive force).

In summary, red or yellow depending on view, experience of official (s), replay available/not available.

Clear as mud as is a lot in this game!

It was always a red for me from first sight. I was watching as a neutral and had a sharp intake of breath when the challenge was made. I suppose I watch from a grassroots referee perspective but would expect red all day long for that.

Hard to see from the TV real time, live so can understand it and I think therefore that we’re firmly in “on field call stands” territory on this one. Had it been red on field, it’s not being overturned.

Doku’s reaction plays a part here. Boy who cried wolf scenario writ large. Rolls around like so many others do at minor contact, which plants the seed of doubt. “Is it really that bad? Maybe not, go yellow”.

Er... what rolling around?
