Liverpool vs Aston villa

Clearly I'm in the minority here, but I don’t think the DOGSO foul on Salah is as egregious as is being made out.
I see a hand on the shoulder, but I’m not convinced the fall is consequential of that contact, or that the contact impedes massively.
Game of opinions of course…

Absolute stonewall DOGSO for me! Red would've been mitigated by the goal but I am not sure how anyone can look at that and say that's not a foul.

Bailey isn't making any attempt for the ball, he is the wrong side of Salah and just pushes him over. It's as much of a DOGSO as Saliba's was against Bournemouth.

Nobody in the world will despute that it’s dogso if it’s a foul, I’m not strongly opposed to it being a foul but I think it’s very soft. As I said, I’m not convinced that the fall is consequential of the contact, neither am I convinced that the contact was impactful.

Whether those who are commenting believe he was correct or incorrect with key decisions, it does not make his total performance as poor. It wasn’t.

If he'd missed it would've been interesting. VAR can't decide advantage had accrued so they would've had to send Coote to the monitor, who could then go with a red or a yellow if he decides an advantage had accrued.

You're right, one missed KPI (however obvious) doesn't make a poor performance. The fact he had a wildly erratic foul/caution threshold, complete failure to act against multiple delayed restarts and some basic out of play decisions wrong is why his overall performance was poor.

Come on David, I normally agree with most things you say. But he was poor.

He’s never really been PL standard, especially top 10 PL standard.

His general decision making is generally poor and inconsistent. But main thing for me is he always looks terrified

Not that is specifically related to this game, but Coote looks like he’s about to find himself in a lot more trouble than missing a DOGSO!

IF the video is real. Wouldn't shock me if it was AI. Seems a touch coincidental that this comes out straight after Coote refereeing Liverpool.

My initial reaction was the same, but lets face it, while it's clearly far from ideal, it's certainly not a Bobby Madley situation. If the roles were reversed, the manager would get a fine and a ban, so not sure why Coote's punishment , should be any worse.
Referees are held to a higher standard, in the same way police are. Look at France a few years ago; a referee kicked out at a player and was sacked. If roles were reversed, player would likely get a ban but not be sacked.

On top of that, officials need to be seen to be neutral, players and managers don’t.

Agree it could well be fake. It’s an incredibly realistic bit of AI if it is.

Removed that part of the post because I agree that we are held to a higher standard. Not sure I agree it should be a career ender though, although it would potentially be difficult for him to officiate on Liverpool games again.

They could stop him refereeing Liverpool games. But then he wouldn’t really be able to referee any games of rivals of Liverpool, as the accusations would end up coming.

How do they deal with this stuff in the SPFL, cos I imagine that about 60% of refs in the professional game up there support(ed) one of the big two.

Hes not well regarded among liverpool fans in the slighest, so someone creating an AI video wouldnt be implausible. Whether it explains some of his previous decisions is a matter for someone else to decide ;)

They just don't bother with that kind of stuff, and if they tried to bring in anything like that then I don't think it would work either due to how 'tribal' certain things are in Scotland. Referees can declare a conflict of interest if appropriate though - main example in recent times has been Steven McLean never refereed his brother Brian.
